So, no analog guage Kuryakyn with yet colored lights(red to blue). When I stopped for gas I noticed only orange, not the usual 1 green at idle. After getting gas I noticed no green lights at 2 k rpms only 1 green flickering at 55 mph when usually have 2 solid green lights. At work I found a loose positive cable, but after tightening still no green lights after re start. Will see of battery re charges on way home. Sound like alternator?

Yeah, the battery has to have full charge to make meter work right. I'm really hoping the ride home from work will charge it back up after tightening that pos cable. I'll get the meter on it too at that time.

So does this mean if you have to work on Crystal too much you will be upgrading to an 1800 soon Randy?

Check all the connections and use another meter to verify if there actually is an issue. There may be other loose or dirty connections.

Glad that you still have your sense of humour Randy. Have you checked to see if you have the original alternator still, it may only need some new brushes if so?

Like I mentioned, the pos cable was loose enough to move with my fingers, I tightened that. The po said he had just replaced alt brushes before I bought her. I'm expecting the battery to charge on the way home.

This is a view of the left/port side of the bike with her side and lower engine cover off. The red arrows are the three mounting bolts and the green arrows are some vacuum lines and wires in the way. For once it looks like I won't have to run to Vegaswingnut's house for help(maybe lol). I'm going to get a regular replacement alternator as I have no need or funds for a Compufire unit.

When I replace this I'll start another thread so we can use this as a tutorial for noobs like myself.

...i think you need help ...

JOE, that is just MEAN!! :smilie_happy: Just kidding...

Stock is only 40 amp.
Gees Honda continued building the charging system marginal a long time after the internal stator.
But at least it's upgradeable.
Brownie points to you Randy for going with the higher output.

After the first time, learning how to twist and turn it to get it out of the frame, it takes about 30 minutes to change the next time. Be sure to disconnect the battery and be careful not to scratch the o-ring surface on the engine with the drive blades on the alternator, the corners are kinda sharp. Taking the lower trim pan off gives you a better view and take off the sidestand safety switch (1 little 8mm bolt) so you can get the wire out of the way. I think you'll be surprised how easy it is to change.
