I guess 12V light bulbs are not efficient to generate heat. It is meant to generate light and heat is just unwanted bi-product.
Also the filament will be too fragile.

BTW, I filled the gaps between outer and inner runner pipes as per Dan's and Mr. Slabghost's suggestion.

I found a trace of gas between the two so inner pipes were not acting as I intended.
Another test ride coming up after work today.
Hopefully I can feel more low end torque.

If not, I have '79 cams in my garage.

I hope I remember the feel w/o the filling so I can compare. :hihihi:
I haven't ridden my other bikes so I should be okay.
If I ride XT500 or BSA, I will definitely feel my Oldwing slow.
She's much heavier than the two and they don't have fairings so the rushing wind will make me feel more acceleration too.

I wonder how much the cheapest accelerometer costs...

Just came back from the test ride.
Wow what a difference!
Definitely more tractable.
Accelerates smoothly from 2k rpm in 5th gear even quite an up hill.
(Not quite 1.5k rpm like Dan's but that's probably cams..?)
Not only that the torque seems to be increased in all rpm ranges.
Feels really nice from 3k to 5k even up to 7k.
Felt secondary opening the first time. Nice increase in accel. Smooth transition.

Thanks every one!

Oh today's air temp was around 65F.
I got 80F plenum temp with one resister, 100F+ with two resisters on.
I think 80F is high enough for good running.
Maybe I should put a thermostat there.
But then again, all that unused AC will be dissipated at the regulator so maybe two can be on at all times.

great I am thinking of trying your approach on heat ...so your getting better running ... that's quite the statement .....hmmmm seems joedumbdrum might have been taking a lot of flak ....for very good move on the single carb deal ... this is great skirri makes me feel good to read this

Sounds great!

Are you still coming over this weekend so we can compare notes?

Thanks Dan.
Yes, I would like to visit.
I want your feel on overall engine performance.
I will bring the cams also. I am not sure they are in good shape so want your opinion on that too.

Would Saturday morning (9:30~10:00 AM) okay?

I feel that the radiated heat from the crankcase alone is quite a lot.
Runners heat up nicely even w/o the resister heater.

Maybe a different story if air temp is 40F but I don't usually ride in that kind of condition.

I will see what happens on sustained freeway ride.

I thought the reduced runner size would improve torque. Now I know for certain why it did not. Congratulations!

I must be misunderstanding something here, I thought the reduced runner size DID improve torque :headscratch:

oh skirri had not sealed off the head end of runner and it was still acting like it was big ... skirri sealed it and tested again and then the improvement came ... V saw this and pm skirri that he thought this is why there was no improvement on the first test ride ....hmm hope that worded right
