My Bike Models
Former '82 GL1100 "The Slug"
I am still riding the Slug for very short trips, but she will be sold. This winter, I will be adding some of the items I purchased for the balance of her restoration. One item has come to mind; we fix up our bikes to our liking, but customizing does not always please the next owner.

I painted my engine Duplicolor Iron a few years back and love the color. But, putting the bike back on the market I am thinking it might need to be returned to the Duplicolor 1615 Aluminum color. I will be painting the tank, side covers and fenders back to the original 1982 Cosmos Black Metalic. I also already own all new emblems and the original decals and stripes.

I am looking for honest opinions on the engine color. Here is the Iron color:

I like the Gloss-Olive look, actually. How do they get "iron" for a color name? Well, I think it looks sharp the way it is!

If you squint, it kinda looks like a faded color of hematite.

I don't know. I think it is more of an Olive Drab semi-gloss.

Looking at the Duplicolor site, it doesn't look like they still produce this color (DE1651), but the cap looks like it is more of a gray color.

:headscratch: Ida no....I'm still tryin to figure out how you sell/resale a color? :headscratch:
:Doh2: :smilie_happy:

I like the custom aspect of the cast iron color against the other colors on the engine. I painted mine black(big mistake), but now I wish I would have just put it back aluminium. In your pics, the aluminimum color looks best, imho. just looks cleaner to my eyes.

With the non stock engine colour it would be easy for someone to think that this was the colour that the “engine reconditioner” used after his “rebuild”. :whistling:

They both look great, but I have a preference for the original aluminum.

I'm with steve83, for resale I would go with the aluminum.

My opinion as well.

If you are expecting a difference in what you will get for it, I would not bother. I seriously doubt either will change the amount anyone would be willing to pay for this old a bike. The way it is looks great, and anyone that might buy for a full restoration will probably pull and redo everything, anyway.

Well Ok then, when mine comes out, not anytime soon hopefully, I'm painting it Chevy Orange or the 60's Pontiac Teal Green. I might even go with the Honda Burgundy to color match the body panels, and paint all the plumbing in Gold, lol!

+1 don’t get too worried about potential buyer as they may love your colour choice.
