Hey guys. ..Can any one tell me how to get my fake tank cover off. :help: I need to get under there to change out my coils. :head bang: :builder: :thanks:

(updated thread title-aapple)

Remove the rubber cover between front of cover and triple tree, remove two bolts on front of cover, remove seat, remove bolt of each side of cover, lift up back of cover and slid towards the rear.

SShhhhhhh ! Joe, if I told everything, it would have been a boring job. :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy: There will be plenty of cussing taking them coils out. :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:

Well I did it :clapping: took me about 45 min :builder: but I got my coils changed out :good: :thanks: to you all that help me out on here :laptop: not to bad when you know what to do :Egyptian: I jumped on her went down the road and the knock is still there :head bang: not as bad but there  so now its time 4 some    :salute:

Glad you got your coils swapped out freebird. You might try some marvel mystery oil in the crankcase and see if that helps the knock. It's pretty good stuff as an upper cylinder lube when run thru the fuel tank. The atf added to the fuel will not only keep the carbs clean but helps eliminate carbon buildup on pistons and the valves. The MMO works good on ticking lifters.

 The knocking is getting worse! :crying: I don't ask to ride now, because I don't want anything to happen to her. Wish he would get her to quiet down and purr again. :sensored:

hmmmmm this is a shame ...there are some things ...rocker noise ...exhaust decay that pinches off flow ...stator bolt rattle ...a few other things im sure possible that can be somewhat easy fix past that and if noise is down low in motor I could be bad and very hard to fix ...the meet and greet is not far away in southern Indiana ...maybe you could get it here to be look at by others ....the meet is at my house on the Patoka lake south of French lick Aug. 2-3

 I think Freebird really needs to meet some of his fellow wing lovers. Due to gas prices his race car has been put on hold. (too dang expensive to get it to the track!) I am thinking the bike is his new mistress. :smilie_happy: I would love to be able to make the ride down too. I guess we are going to have to check into this a little more. Meaning I should get out there and help him find the real problem. :laptop:

as your sitting on the bike the stator is on the left side ... in the rear of motor ...round looking part of the rear case ...in the back of the rear case is a plug that unscrews once off the stator bolt is in there inline with the plug sometimes this bo;t becomes losse and the stator ...its like a altenator in a car ...starts making a knocking noise when it get loose enough and can cause lot of damage ...check and see if this may be it ...be nice to just tighten the bolt and problem solved

Is this the same bolt we used to turn the motor over when running the valves? How do we tighten it and is there a torque speck?

clockwise and yes it the same bolt ...don't ever turn counter clockwise ...if its not loose im sure its not the problem but get it tight as you can ... don't know the spec torque

Now any one know how can u tighten that the stator bolt. :builder: my motor keeps turning over and cant tell if the bolts tight. I don't want to go and loosen it. :head bang:

 I just found an article on the stator wires by the battery! Our bike still has the wires plugged in. Why do we need to solder them? What happens if it isn't done? etc.
