Hello.. First post. great site
Just picked up my first Goldwing Monday.. It is a 83 aspen. I am having a problem with the marker lights front and rear. When I picked it up I know the back lights were working but cant recall the front. It has a bumper with extra lights on it. I was riding yesterday and noticed they were out. I don't know what could have in a days time. I am not a expert on wiring and not good with wiring diagrams. was trying to see where the lights get power when the key is turned on. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

Welcome to Classics neighbor!

Check your ground, check your ground, and check your ground. The ignition switches have also been known to need to be torn apart and cleaned up. Not that big of a problem either way.

I found a bad fuse. Replaced and seems ok. I didn't know there was fuses inside the false tank. It seems ok now but I am not sure why it went bad.

This is my first Goldwing and don't know if I riding it wrong. How high should you keep the rpms when riding. I am getting chugging sometimes. Should I be able to run 3rd gear in the 2500 to 3000 rpm range under a loaded condition such as going up a hill. Just not sure if I am running with rpms where they need to be. Sometimes even have trouble pulling out in first gear. Does it need revs and some clutch slipping when pulling out.

Run the rpm's higher, especially under a load. These engines seem to like being run more in the 4-6000 rpm zone.
+1
Even though lots of owners seem to run them at the lower revs where they are hardly breathing. My 81 sees redline pretty much every time I ride it. :good:

try mixing some atf in the fuel ...carbs might be a bit clod running low in rpm would be when it show the most ....about 6oz per tank ....automatic trans fluid is a great carb cleaner...with no discounts

Thanks for the suggestions I will try them. Dan I think you rode this bike before. I bought it outside Chicago and the owner said he knew you.

Did you get it from Dave? (member "Piper" here) That's a nice bike in very good condition. I rode it to Indiana and back.
He takes good care of his stuff, great guy.

Run the ATF as suggested and put miles on it.

Yes his name was Dave. He said you took it on a camping trip I think. I rode it in the higher rpm range and it helped. Where I notice it the most is when I come up a fairly step hill by my house. I am in 1st gear and start up hill and it almost feels like if there was a chain it would be slipping on the rear sprocket. It seems like it will not let me go slow say 10 -15 mph up my hill.

Do the RPM's flare up as if the clutch is slipping or is the chain-on-sprocket example how it sounds?
Sounds like the common "lugging" these engines have. Mostly from too low rpm but can also be gummed carbs.

No it don't seem like clutch is slipping. Just makes that scary sound like a chain would be slipping or say gears teeth would be bad. Might just be normal for this bikes like you said. If a carb was below "par" what would that mean.

its just running bad down low in rpm and making primary change freak out ..studdering while moving ...just like motor is running ...no big deal here ....if idle and lowend running was smooth noise whould lessen or stop completely...1100s have rather good chains and tension system

ok thanks. the noise just made me nervous. thought something was going to break. I ride it and start to get a better feel for the bike.
