I live about 90 miles from the Dragon , never have rode it , I'd like to sometime, but the REAL Problem on a Bike is , meeting somebody in a sports car sideways at 90mph ... a Motor Cycle Always looses in a headon crash with a car. :laptop:

50-60 degree days in January and February are great times to do it. The stores and station will be closed, but a full tank will take me from Clinton through Maryville to Foothills , to the end of the Dragon and back. Just watch for left over salt if close after a snow or ice. And, as always - ride your own ride.

I been on all them roads by you Joe and I have also be down the Dragon several times. Don't get me wrong, that road in Southern Indiana is real nice, but it aint no dragon thats for sure. There are places on the Dragon that if you tried to stop, you would just fall over because the turns are banked. The Dragon is something that every MC rider should try to experience one time. Its easier coming from NC into TN than the other way because there are more outside turns on the way up rather than down. It's not nearly as bad as everyone leads you to believe. Most of the accidents are riders who are pushing their skill level and the potential of the bike. Keep calm and work your way from one end to the other, you will be glad you did. :rocks:

Been to the dragon and slayed it. Banning 18 wheelers just makes good sense, they present a real hazard.

I came over it today, and if there are no fatalities this weekend it will be a miracle. Check-valve sports cars all over it driving full-on in the left lane through blind curves. Diodes about running over motorcycles before they get the chance to use pull-offs to let them by. Ratchets running two-abreast in places (the whole 11 miles is double-yellow) One-ways 'drifting' their cars any chance they get. I had looped through the GSMNP and Cherokee, Bryson City, and after eating at Deals Gap (the sports car crowd used their lot, but all walked up the hill across the road to Tail of the Dragon to spend their money) I rode the fog line the entire 11 miles until I could get out of there on Foothills Parkway. No trucks. Very few bikes compared to other loops I've made (at least annually the past 5 or 6 years).
