Is the goal to make it as close to new as you can or as fast as you can? There are options to make it faster and still as dependable. I'm upgrading my 81 with 75 cams and 77 carbs.

well.... my interest is perked. So would the stock cams be considered mild? I really need to get this engine in my head, never been in one like it. I want to understand it better. So what you are doing is going with jettable carbs? and hotter cams? if so......hmmm
also forgive this (another) stupid question, this clutch, is it wet? I guess Ill find out in a minute as I'm about to begin operation Goldwing
the vision is taking form, gonna be a very different creature from my Seca (wich is very highly modified from stock)

ok made some progress , was making progress then a friend brought over his VT 1100, it was sick so I spent the rest of the after noon cleaning his carbs. so I never got to do all I wanted to do-----(he is on wrench restriction for life, long story)
Anyway I wanted to discover if the the engine and tranny share the same oil, do they? Or does the tranny get something else? If so the tranny must have a filter? Lastly, my Yamaha takes 20/50 I use castrol 4T, MOTORCYCLE oil for wet clutches. Is that what I need to use for the Wing as well?
believe me I have a thousand more questions but I'll continue to read stuff already posted to answer as many questions as I can.
I want to ride this thing! I can hardly wait to finish it

Thanks, I gotta learn this bike. the old man bought it new in 81, then let it sit up the last 10 years. its got 40k on the clock and had an inch of dust on it but it's cleaning up beautifully.

so 10 40 motorcycle oil with NO friction modifiers? the clutch is wet? (the regular shifting clutch is a wet clutch I mean)
also is 52.00 decent for new timing belts?

Yes, use 10/40 MC oil without modifiers because it's a wet clutch.
