Another issue. The original front master cylinder reservoir is shot , so i check online for a replacement and its a whopping $57, omg.
for a piece of plastic. Any alternatives, say different setup from another bike?

You can buy cheap replacement master cylinders on ebay

K&L sells them, # 32-8043, whole deal, cup, O'ring, diaphragm, cap, screws, every thing. :good: Replaced one on a previous 81 that was in need of replacement, years ago. Sold it & is still on there to the best of my knowledge.

Rather expensive but is what you are looking for here?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1981-HONDA-GL11 ... hq&vxp=mtr

Thanks for looking but that's not it. Here's a pic:
https://goldwingdocs.com/forum/download/ ... =17747&t=1

There are 3 of these locks that attach to the frame. These are made for the hondaline removable saddlebags which i believe was extra and added to the bike along with the fairing back in 1981, in the factory. I have two already, one for each saddlebag and am missing one for the trunk, which would be the same as the ones attached to the frame for the saddlebags.
There is an entire frame with all three locks on ebay but its well over $200 and obviously i don't need the frame. The po simply bolted the trunk/hardbag to the frame and I need the lock so that i could remove the trunk.

I will have one available with a key shortly. I just got a new set of the Hondaline bags last summer and they came with brand new locks with matching keys. I will be taking my old locks off and replacing them with the new locks. How soon do you need it? I am traveling out of town a lot so I might not be able to get to it right away.

Understood. Is the frame that he bolted the bag down to the correct one for the lock?

2nd, When the bag is used as a trunk and attached to the lock, mine rattles a little bit. The whole trunk rests on the lock mechanism and the metal tangs under the bag. I have a radio mounted inside my trunk right now and also have the cargo rack on top. I have been known to overload the trunk and ultimately cracked the ABS plastic inside the trunk right at the mount. Just FYI......it is possible the PO wanted to stop the rattle?

Yes, the frame is the original that accepts this lock.Second, it is possible that he bolted it down to stop the rattle. I will not be loading mine as heavy , so cracking should not be an issue. I'm also reinforcing these with some abs sheets and fiberglass tape.

About 2-3 weeks ago on fb selling 3 new locks with keys.
Allen, I need to get these bags down to you!

I'm still obsessed with these detachable Hondaline bags. It's such a cool concept and thanks to Gerry, I have found a missing lock that connects to the trunk. My plans are, once she is complete , to take a small trip and detach these bags, then taking them with me into a hotel. So cool !!
Why would the saddlebags have marker lights? Would there be a quick electrical disconnect of sorts?

These bags did not come with marker lights, they would have been added by the PO.

Okay, that makes sense since there are no plugs anywhere. :salute:

Driveshaft boot needs to be replaced. How is this done ? Does rear wheel need to come off?
No, just disconnect the drive shaft, slide it back and pull the boot. It is very tight getting it around the universal, but it will come out.

Is the boot on the 1200's set up the same way? :headscratch: If so, then when i pulled the wheel & drive unit first, & then slid the drive shaft off the output shaft, when the rear seal on the motor was replaced, was done for nothing. :sensored:  :smilie_happy:

Anyone replaced their rear stock shocks to aftermarket. If so, what did you go with and are you pleased with them?

Some have used progressives, some Harley takeoffs, Some have adapted from other bikes. At least one member has adapted Monro car air shocks. Pretty much all have been happy.

Progressive shocks are to be had by buying dampers, springs, & boots, at a savings if your can's, & fill valve assembly is in good shape, its the simplest install. A better price than the whole set, but still pricey. Like them pretty well, they're way better than the stocker's ever were, at about the least amount of cash, for anything out there. :whistling: Air is nice to easily change the ride, especially if you have bag's on the bike. :good:The whole shock unit's are very nice, but will probably not buy them again, as one could always paint the can's, & the air valve set up's, are usually in good shape. :salute:
