In 2001 when I was diagnosed with MS I traded my Intruder in on a cage and forgot about motorcycles for a while. At that time I mostly wore a full face helmet - HJC was the brand. When I got back on the bike I used a 1/2 helmet and since PA doesn't require helmets, there are even times I ride without one.

While riding behind the wind screen on the 1100, the 1/2 helmet is enough, but I also have a HJC 3/4 helmet for colder and wet weather. Well those don't work so well on the 1200 without a wind screen, so I went shopping. :swoon:

I picked up a HJC IS-16 and man full face helmets have come a LONG way since 2001!

With the air vents open, I actually feel air on my bald head. There is a skirt that keeps cold air from blowing up into the helmet around my chin. The anti fogging face shield actually works - how long remains to be seen, but for now it is working. It has a removable nose guard to deflect my breath away from the shield, and the lining is removable and washable. But, the feature that sold me on this helmet is a retractable sun shield :music: No need to wear sunglasses or to pack an extra face shield for riding later into the day/night.

For me it was money well spent! Oh and when riding the 1200, no more tears streaming back my face.

Retractable sun shield, that's what I need!

How much did it set you back?

$179.00, but the dealer I went to (not my local dealer) took $10.00 off and then I bought a quick disconnect for $10. so I was back to the $179.00. 1/2 the price of a modular.

And I thought those were tears of joy! :smilie_happy:

I'm gonna try and get up your way before Christmas; I'd love to check out the 1200!

The tears of joy were really just smiles! You are always welcome, let me know when.

Problem I have with all helmets I've worn is they hurt my ears after a couple hours so I end up removing the side pads.
Wonder if that one is better.

Dan, my ears do not even touch the sides, there are pockets that they fit into.

That is a first! I have never had that issue? Are you sure you are buying the right size helmet? :hihihi:

Yeah I'm weird.
Happens to my son too.

XL is what I wear. Fits good otherwise.

Both of my helmets have pockets for communication speakers...lottsa room. I wear my bluetooth with no problems, unless I also wear my balaclava....then it gets a little tight. Dan....are you sure you're not Vulcan? :hihihi:

Well it is the tops of my ears that get painful, hmm.
Could that be from sunglasses?

Sunglasses do irritate also but I've tried without them and same pain, maybe a little less.

I try to stay away from intercom capable things... That would just give her another way to yell at me :)

:smilie_happy: Slow down! :Doh2:

We wear Symax IIIs. Having an "HJC" shaped head, it's all I look at now. I love the flip feature as well as the sunvisor. For shield fogging, I haven't seen anything as effective as Pinlock! We got new helmets last Christmas, and since I commute on the 1800, I bought the Pinlock inserts for mine. Wow! Just open the chin vent and the only fog is right in front of my nose, no matter the weather. Won't have another helmet without it!
