Oh...do i feel lucky now....i've never owned one with over 38000 miles
from 21,000 to 38,000. But i did put in alot of time in them with the Restorations.
Ahhh....you don't know what your missing then! At about 60,000 miles, the engine is just broken in and really smooth, wants to climb mountains and eat up highways!! :moped:

ive never owned a bike that had original anything very long including proper reading mileage ...I have nothing to post here sheesh LOL

:smilie_happy: That's because the bikes you find are already dead, and you resurrect them.

~O~

I think I am at about 70,000 miles on my 1981 Interstate. Knowing that many of you are getting 100k+ miles makes me hopeful that I am good to go for a while. I will be due for new timing belts this spring cuz I put new ones on when I got the bike 4 yrs ago at 45k. I do think the years are catching up to her though - last fall I thought my center stand was bent but it ended up that the frame cross brace it attached to had collapsed from rust!

Gosh, doesn't anyone ride these things? Or maybe more than one bike? In 82 a friend of mine bought a brand new standard. After a couple thousand miles we put a sidecar on it, a custom built 15" wheel and 145/15 car tire on the rear and a set of Unit leading link forks. He is one that says they are made to ride not wash. :smilie_happy: Maintenance however is done regularly.

Two years ago he decided to swap out the motor with another lower mileage one he had because the original was starting to smoke a little. At the time it had 308,000 miles on it and had been to almost all provinces and states including a two week trip through Mexico. A lot of that towing a tent trailer. :good:

Gosh, doesn't anyone ride these things?....

Well I have 34,000 miles in 3 years, so I am doing the best that I can. Since I took on the part time job last year, my riding time has been cut dramatically, but the rides get longer.

You sir are doing better than me. I figure with the riding season we have each year anyone getting over 10,000 miles is doing great. I have to admit that work and life have gotten in the way of riding lately. I plan to change that.

The first year I had it I rode it 14,000 miles: last year only 8,000

71,512 miles to be exact on my '81 Interstate and still runs like new. My average is about 7000 miles/year almost all of it riding to work which can be 350 miles/week, weather permitting. I have only had to clean the starter, replace the belts, and adjust the valves.

I am curious how many miles folks are getting on their bikes without having to do any major repair such as a stator or clutch or anything that involves removing the engine.

Since every bike I've ever owned was at least third hand. I've no idea how many miles are really on any of them.

Mine showed 93,000 on it when I got it. I found that the first owner sold it at 135,000 meaning the bike had 193000 on it when I got it. The original engine went south, current engine has 34,000 on it now. I'm averaging 2100 miles a month on it right now. My daily commute is 95 miles round trip.

My 1200a has only 67000 km (aprox. 41000 miles) . I have done 5000 km in the last 2 years.
It runs like new and hope this will last till I can't ride anymore in perhaps 30 years. Just changing whats's needed and servicing as stays in the manual. I rode yesterday incredible 25 km, had nice weather and could no wait till spring.

My 77 only has 36600 original miles but a buddy of mine has a 79 with 320200 at last count and still running he is original owner. Also saw a 76 with 302000 for sale last summer at a swap meet still ran too.
