well im cleaning the old gaskits off the 1100 heads ...im going to reinstall with no gaskits on the motor and put belts on and use that as a test to to see if anything hits ....and yes my heads gaskits are 1100 gaskits thats good ...ill just have to put things off till i can get some orings for heads to be put on for good

well that didnt work to good ...without gaskits the pistons hit the 1100 head around the edge ...so today im going to clean the heads even more ...they were quite messed up with gaskit stuff on the heads and block time to get that all good

So the 1200 piston top does clear the block. That should make the block closer to same as the 1000/1100 and help make the carb width closer. I don't think the 1000 piston clears the block.

ill have to look and see just how things work on the 1100 short block ...i think the same thing would nappen there also ...just shows you how close pistons and heads come together around the edge...the gaskit is all that seperates them...im going to go slow through here as i dont want any chance of doing something or not doing something that will cause a problem here ....there will be no rushing through this ...anyway the piston is only .05mm bigger than 1100 but it still seems to hit

That's what I'm trying to say, that part of the increase from the 11 to1200 is stroke, but some of the 4.6 mm of stroke is made with the rod, not all 4.6 mm is part of the block increase. It's gonna help getting the carbs to reach.

yes ive test fited the carbs before and it seems you can pull the rubber intkes out one of the tw0 knotches and it hooks up fine ...but this was only lightly testing i never tried too seall it down yet ...just looked possible....pass the pistons clearing im thinking things will be much easier on this mod...im realy getting excited on the deal....the 1200 gearing matched to the 1100 final drive i think is going to be killer...just low and tall enough to be a real road ripper ....im very pleased it didnt take much to clear the valves ....

The other part to this is that if the 1200 piston clears the block and the1000 doesn't, we should be looking at a compression increase. Going by Steve's findings ge figured it was a loss of compression to around 8.7 iirc, but I don't know if he caught this. He found the heads to be pretty equal using a flat piece of plastic across the chamber. If the head spaces are equal and the 1200 piston moves more into the chamber, I'm still thinking we'll see at least the same compression as a stock 1200. I just got home, but i have to go look.

Wow!! Was I wrong!! The 1000 piston has way more dome than the 1200. When I put both engines at tdc and compared the domes by looking from the side, I'll bet the 1000 is double that of the 1200!! The 12 may stick out more, but they look like they would only equal the compression at best. I guess the only way to know is to make an impression in clay and compare the two.

it is what it is ekvh....i think things are close enough it dosnt matter much in the big picture of this mod were doing...the extra ccs will be huge id say as it seems so on 1100s ....but what to expect from a stroked 1100 to a 1200 will be something new ....im thinking the extra stroke will get a boost on compression just in traval further in stroke...plus more gas and air also..so who knows what to think .....i would like to know why steve is selling his and comment about it ...icant seem to log in over there since they changed things guess im booted :smilie_happy: wont be the first time...no riding impressions to any detail just clueless i hope to blab a lot on this when im done hopefuly to the good side

I think he's selling it because he has different and better builds going. I know he has a Previa supercharger he wants to add to a different bike. He interrupted himself to do this build, I think. I think this one was to see whether or not it's worth it to change heads. I don't know what he thinks that way. Maybe we'll have to wait and see. He has another bike where he has grafted a 1200 rear end and motor to a 1000 frame. His plans look pretty cool, a moderate bagger with a Sabre fairing.

As to performance of our builds? I hope I find out by next spring. I hope to sell one of my bikes this weekend and if I do, I'll get the head gaskets, rebuild the heads and get them mounted. Maybe I'll do a fire up before spring, but it'll be late spring before I ride it.

been cleaning up cylinders real well the movment in the lower end is certainly smooth ...im very well pleased about that got the heads all cleaned up and ready for install still havnt been to town to get batteries for the camera ...i want to take some pics before i bolt on heads so everyone can see the piston cutting done and how much ...to get the clearence its not much...

well ive been waiting and cleaning still on 1200 86 motor ....its looks great and im still waiting for batteries to come home for the camera ..to take pics of the piston releaf but its not much ...i think today batteries are coming ....im in the process of thinking i might put this motor in the 77 as its more ready for the road than the mongrel...to say the least :smilie_happy: and in wanting to try the 1000 final drive as in the gearing it will be rater low ...but the spread on the 1200 gearing is quite large compared to other oldwings to make this okay in my trying it ...i dont think its going to be as good as 1100 final drive match up ...but i want first hand knowledge....around where i live the lower gearing make be nice ...as first gear can be an adventure out of my driveway to say the least in or out ...just thinking thoughts right now not sure what i might do

okay some pics of the milling job

not the greatest of pics but you can see it dosnt take much to clear the pistons ...and now to the next step in the 1200 modifying

Cave man extraordinaire!! This isn't your first rodeo with the grinder. Looks to me like it'll work. If the compression is a tad lower, just think of how much more boost you'll have with that supercharger you're putting on.
