Have you looked at plugs yet? Believe me, nobody wants to get it going more than me. Roady is even giving me hints. I want it to be right, and this is pretty new to me. Without the help here I would never have tried it. I have a few more mods to do, then I need to tear it down and get some shiny parts together. I've pretty much been a clean a little and ride a lot kind of guy, but this one I want to be new looking, then ride a lot. I'm not a painter, but I'll probably try that a little too.

corse it hant ran much ...but yes i had the plugs out and they looked like they were never installed yet man it burning clean eric ...they look like new for old plugs i can also tell you there gaped at 40 ...this whole ignition package was in the 79 1000 mongrel of mine ...well its time eric i want your bike to be a success too ....im here for any help i can be

bad day at the brake shop here ...i spayed the wrong stuff on the inside cylinder and ruin the rubber seals .... :swoon: :Doh2: :rtfm:  :crying:  now my only hope is the 79 brakes will work on the 77 holders and forks .... :fishin:

Man what a Build story here , I guess I have been reading on this most of the day... AND I have been taking Notes too Joe .... this is some GOOD Stuff . and Important to Know for anybody with a 4 cyl. Goldwing . Thanks Joe. :read:

thank you sledge
Thank you Joe :clapping: 6 to 7 years ago I wanted to install an gl1200 engine onto my 82 aspy. But in some another goldwing forum I was told that it was imposible :fiddle: .Can't remember what wing forum it was,one of the obstacles was that engine was wider to fit the frame. But here you are Joe making it posible. Thanks for sharing :thanks: :thanks:

thanks carl ...whew im finaly back on my feet weak but much better ....im looking forward to getting hooch more done and completely finished ...i messed up one of my brake piston orings that are square on the 75-77 yrs and didnt have anything used to try ...so im kinda set back there some ...wish i had that moment back when i distroyed the o ring in fustraition ...i usealy dont fall to this but did this time dang it all.....

greetings Joedrum,

was recommended to you by Wildwing. I seem to have a even bigger mutt of a bike than yours. frame on mine is a 78, current motor, front end and fairing are 83 1100I and back half is 71 VW bug
torsion beam and reversed transaxle (IRS version). swapped entire wire harness from 83 to 78 frame and all is good. 83 engine a little tired and have considered a top end rebuild, HOWEVER,,,
have opportunity to pickup a 84 1200 engine and was looking to see if anyone else has done this kind of a change-out. Since rear swing arm and wheel are gone, i have reasonable room in back of frame.
have you tried fitting a 1200 in 1000 frame? Results??
Regards Chester

yes an 84 1200 motor would be perfect for you ....it would go in your rig ....with some slight frame mods to the 78 frame ....thiis thread your posting in is all about 1200 fitting in 1000 frame ....i also have a 84 1200 mounted in a 82 1100 ...the cool thing about the 84 1200 motor is that it is greared the same and has rear ignition set up like the 83 1100 .....it is all stock set up motor heads and carbs ....the only modds are to the rear ignitiom ...just a plug and play switch of the 1100 rear ignition for the 84 rear ignition ....and a clutch cover switch from 83 to 84 so the cable clutch will hook up to 1200 clutch...84 is the only yr you can do that to ....85 and later you cant do that ....

just off the top of my head id say if you can get a complete 1200 motor and carbs the stock set up would do nice in your rig ...or you could go like this thread is ...its highly moded for power everywhere im the rpm zone it appears ....read the thread lots 1200 info in here ...and you can pm me and exchange numbers if your really hot on it ....

Joe, I thought you had some frame interference with the 1200 rear cover?
Also I seem to have gotten the idea somewhere along the lines the 1100 carbs (or was it the 1000 carbs) are narrower than the 1200 rack so there's some loosness in the intake tubes when fitted to a 1200 engine?
There was also mention of a problem with fitment at the frame and belt covers? Some mod has to happen there as well.

yes all you said is true dan but echomann12 has a trike in a 1000 frame already has 83 1100 in it ...so the 84 1200 would be perfect for his trike ...with the stator frame mod and the front frame bar mod and hes pretty much good to go ...he could not use 1100 carbs unless he changed heads too 1000 or 1100 ...i guess you could but the ports would be mismatched in size but who knows it might help but thats not a good gamble that it would though......

hooch ran good today took it for a short run ...this is a bad ass bike .....with 1000 final it is a monster of power ....it ran up a hill close to home like it was going downhill .....sheeesh this the kind of bike that no one would sale for liability reasons ...it was fun to have power on demand anywhere ....it makes this 77 seem like its weighs nothing

ran hooch today .....raining here and hands to sore to do much anyway ....so put a box fan on hooch and ran it ......fired right up ....and its normal super good ....once warm it reved instant and quick ....ran it for long time ...chaecking temp and reving it up always sharp ......

this speaks a lot to me about the full dyna set up .....with it and a decent motor it seems to turn this 1200 into an entirely different beast .....ive never reved a bike this that just flat gets it done and no trauma in the bike anywhere ...not on it ..not in the grip ..no where ....im not sure ive even reved anything any better than this bike ....strange in the most pleasing way .....its like its not a wing anymore at all it seems i made something else ... like maybe the porchee edition wing ....

anyway i think dyna ignition has some drawbacks in its design and could be consider fragile to some degree ....but if one wants a good ignition setup that will change the bike big time and perfectly matched the complete dyna set up and a good relay set up seems to be good on hooch ....

no product pushing here just outcome as i see it so far in this bike ......personally i think the relay is as big a part as the dyna .....im fixing to put one in the 83 angry dresser....with the stock 1100 ignition and see what happens :laptop:

What precise Dyna model have you installed joe :headscratch:

carl hooch has been converted to 1000 ignition ...and the dyna S ignition is what i have on hooch the 1200 ...your 82 aspy is not dyna capable unless its moded on the left head for 1000 ignition and cams installed to drive the dyna S on a 1100 ....without the parts and the cost of a dyna it rather exspensive to do even though its pretty much plug and play ....id say buying a 10 dollar relay and installing it on your 82 aspy ...i think would get you a big boost and bang per dollar for your bike ...and also new wires from coils to plugs with no resistors in the end boots will do big boost too ...if you need resistors on your bike buy the resistor plugs they work so much better than end resistors do that corrode and crack coils like pop corn from not letting the coils empty into the plugs and everything suffers heat damage ...the relay provides strait through power to the ignition without going through all the switches of safety and keys and start button ...witch lessens power through every connection ...a dyna is somewhat useless as a nod without doing this ...and doing this will make the stock ignition hugely better in my experience so far in wingworks

What 10 dollar relay is that Joe?? Which brand wires & plugs??I'm kinda lost here.

I'll field the relay question. Any cheap headlight relay. Remove the power feed to the coils to activate the relay. Then run a fresh wire through the relay from the battery or battery side of the start solenoid to power the coils. This preserves the control function of all the switches and assures full power reaches the coils.

I think Joe is saying to replace the standard wires and caps but take the resistor out of the caps.
I did that and used a piece of #8 solid wire the same length as the resistor.
Both the wires and caps I got from a guy here that bought a large quantity and helped out a bunch of us by passing on the savings.
I had bought 7mm copper core wire before at a Napa store.
