Hello fellow Goldwing riders!

I have a newly acquired 1983 GL1100 Interstate with a custom "Pepsi Blue" Paint scheme...I absolutely fell in love with this bike at first site but she had the nagging carb issues. So I elected to switch to a single carb setup, made a manifold and VIOLA! She runs great with only one exception. I hope I won't offend anyone but I am new here and would like to ask a technical question. While working on this bike, I happen to notice that the oil was a milky white. Big scare! Well, no white smoke on start up or running, no smoke on running, and the anti-freeze is not going down. I changed the oil for the 3rd time about 3 days ago. Started it up and again...the same milky white color. Ok, haven't checked the water pump yet but here's the kicker...I just checked the oil and now it is a beautiful clear golden brown in color! Anyone have an answer for this? I haven't started it yet (almost afraid to do so), but I am wondering what is going on!

So if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated! I only paid $400 for this beautiful bike and darn proud of it and my first attempt at making a single carb conversion WORKING manifold! Oh if someone can tell me how to post a picture of my pride and joy, please talk me through it, would love to let you see what I found (not trying to brag, just very excited about it!)

Thanks again and if I can be of service to anyone considering a single carb conversion, please let me know. The bike runs GREAT with NO power lag and very smooth running!

Take care all!

Not going to offend going single, lots here have done it including me. Would like to see your build and the bike.

As for the milky oil, that's from coolant getting in but you say the level isn't going down. Hmm.
Have you checked the level in the actual radiator? Could be it's going down and coolant isn't being drawn in from the plastic reservoir?

Water in the oil will evaporate away, may have gotten water in accidentally or could be fter a long sit it slowly seeps in, as Dan said check your radiator and if all is well ride it and keep checking the level and oil level/condition.
Probably have to do something at some point but maybe you can have awhile to enjoy it.

Welcome ! Go into your user control panel and set up your gallery then just follow the cues to upload your pics. Oil pressure is usually higher than water pressure but it's possible water can get to the oil at the water pump.

Nice looking ride and you can't argue with the price :good:

Welcome from Southern California! I hope your oil issue is a temporary one. If the bike sat for a long time and moisture collected in the oil, it might take a few oil changes to get it all out, since not all the oil drains out. Looking forward to seeing your pride and joy!

I personally haven't had this happen, but I do live in the south and don't do the whole winter storage thing.

I have read about condensation build up in the crankcase/motor oil from owners occassionally starting but not bringing a bike up to full operating temperature in colder northern climates.

Since it is full on summertime this very well may not be the case but I thought it was worth mentioning.

It does sound like coolant in the oil, hopefully not but many seem to have that issue.

Welcome to the forum & enjoy! Nice looking ride, looks like a keeper. I'd second the water pump if you loose coolant. Reservoir can stay same level if there is a crack in the siphon/overflow line/fittings to radiator.

Welcome to CGW from SW Florida... I just rescued a 84 Interstate and just took it for a ride yesterday... These older wings are great... I also have a 90 GL1500 but I think the 84 will be my fav...

Only bike's that have been out in over a month are the two 84 standard's, :hihihi: too warm for either of the other's. :whistling: They come out when the season turn's, or it's wet out, extending your riding season. :good:

I would just like to give a huge THANK YOU to all of you who replied and offered assistance with my bike. It means quite a bit that you took the time to acknowledge my post and this is great. Just confirms the close "brotherhood" of all fellow bikers, especially the Goldwinger's. THANK YOU AGAIN to all and I hope I may return the favor.
