I just bought myself a 1984 Honda Goldwing Interstate. Color is red. A few weeks ago I would never have gotten one but over the past few weeks they have kind of grown on me. One of my good friends has one as well. The place from where I got it is 100 miles away, and its still winter so the previous owner is kind enough to store it for me until spring time. Feel welcome to check out some pics.

I have noticed that one of the LED bars on the radio digital display is dead. Any way of fixing something like that?

(I have had two previous bikes. 1982 Honda CB750K and a 1982 Kawasaki 440 LTD if anyone cares.)

Welcome from Oz, looks like you have made a good start and if it anything like my experience with the Rats Nest it will continue to grow on you. :good:

Welcome aboard. Fair warning. This bike doesn't ride the the two you had before. Take the time to practice and get used to it.

One of my biggest personality traits is that I can never leave a puzzle alone. This fairing mystery you guys brought up sure qualifies. In researching, I am concluding that in the 1984, when they transitioned to the newer engine and style, they must have kept making the 84s with the older fairing for a short time. Because my bike also has the saddle bags and compartments that come with the interstate.

I have attached a couple more photos. This is not my bike, someone elses that I found online. But it shows what mine looks like and how it may be rare, but definitely not one of a kind. Honestly, I think it looks cool, having the bigger engine with the older headlight design. The round headlight looks more classic then the rectangular flush ones that came later IMHO.

Having a badge on the false tank usually means it's a Standard, unless the false tank has been changed.
What does it say on the steering neck? 1200A, 1200I for Aspencade or Interstate, may say 1200S or just 1200 if it's a Standard.

Thanks Paul. Nice to know of some "neighbors" around here. I havent been to Team Motorsports more than a couple of times, but I have been to the Englehardt Center in Madison many times, where I lived for several years. But I am originally from Manitowoc. (Spent 2013 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.)

Hoping to ride up to Eagle River a few times this season. I've written a couple of books based there and motorcycling is a big theme in the books. Also hoping to get to Washington Island. :)

The only time my wife and I visited the Island was on an 1800 Goldwing. It's an awesome place to ride cycles. Tons of deer though!
We'll have to go riding sometime. I work in GB alot with Louis Hallett when designing Goldwing ignitions.
