Victoria, BC,
Just joined and find these forums extremely valuable, filled with lots of experience and knowledge. Got back into riding last year with a Suzuki C90T, but after a road trip into the Okanogan Valley (interior of BC) I knew I needed to change what I was riding or buy a bike with everything already on it. My son-in-law found me a 2008 GL1800 here on the island and after one look I bought it. Took some advanced rider training courses to update my skills and also did two road trips on it; one to Palm Springs, San Diego and back (March/April of this year) and back home to northern Ontario and back (May/June/July). When I got back, I started to reassess my riding and needs, and decided I wanted a reliable bike, but more vintage, so I bought a 1985 GL1200 Ltd. I knew going into this buy that a 30 year old bike would need maintenance and updating, but the engine is in good shape and does not burn oil. So far I have done the rear brake rotor and pads (rear rotor sounded like a tambourine) and have updated the suspension as well (racetech springs and gold valves forward, progressive 412 shocks in the rear). I have a list of maintenance and projects to be done that will enhance the '85 GW and let me ride for years to come. I will be selling the '08 for a variety of reasons, but thoroughly enjoyed my time with it.

Looking forward to perusing the various threads and learning from the experience of each. As this is Xmas Day, best of the season to all.

Cheers

Ernest

Welcome to the fun of vintage wings Ernest. There are a lot of nice upgrades possible for the 1200's. Merry Christmas.

Thanks to everyone for the very warm welcome. I've started to go through the various threads and there is a significant amount of information available that is adding to my knowledge of this older GW. Looking forward to posting the work I will be doing on the '85. Cheers

Ernest
