Hey my name is Lucas I have a GL1000 that is about to have a 1200 put in it with 1000 heads and cams.
Any advice on it would be greatly appreciated and if you know of any electrical upgrades or the best way to upgrade the lighting system i would really appreciate it.

Lucas, welcome to the site from New Jersey! :clapping:

We have experts that have performed this task and they will be along shortly! (Me, I have trouble with just keeping OEM stuff working right!)

You will be happy with the 1200 into a 1000 frame. You might consider a 1200 front end as well as the 1000 front forks are rather flexible. The 1200 will pick the front up.

I just did some math. I have it that out the back of the motors the 85-87 1200 is geared 18% lower in first gear, 15% lower in second gear, 11% lower in third gear, 8% lower in fourth and almost dead equal in fifth gear compared to the 1000. This would be a good swap into an 1100 as well. The 1200's had 2.833 rear final drives, the 1100's about 3.1, and the 1000's 3.40. Tires were different as well.
