Welcome from California. So what is with your starter or starting problems? When I bought mine I was told it needed a new starter clutch. Problem was the battery was no good and wouldn't spin the starter fast enough to engage the starter clutch, at least that is what I think was the issue. Put a new battery in it and haven't had a starting problem since.

Starter is just shot, doesn't even spin when you hit the button. Battery is new and charged. We bump started it and rode it, it runs great. It is pretty weather beaten but a new seat cover and some cheap paint and it will look pretty decent. Only 45K on the odo.

The previous owner was told you had to pull the engine to replace the starter. I got a good deal on it :) I have a rebuild kit that will be here Friday, I will let you know if that does indeed do the trick.

Next thing will be timing belts just because.... I figure a 30 year old rubber belt is just asking for problems.

Here she is after a little clean up. Still needs more cleaning and the trunk needs to be wet sanded and polished. That's why it's off in the pics.

Welcome, Dro, from Southern California! Your '83 looks just like mine - except it has the engine assembled and installed!

No need to pull the engine to replace the starter. It's a bit close, but it will come out. First, make sure it's bad...try cranking it directly with jumper cables to ground and the cable terminal. You may have a relay (solenoid), starter switch, or other wiring issue causing it to not spin. Try the easy things first.
