New Owner

Hi, I'm a new owner of a 1975 GL1000. I'm in Stamford, CT and am happy to find so much information about these bikes on forums like this one. Thanks to all of you.

I'm planning to make some modifications in the cafe racer direction to my bike.

This is the bike. You can't tell from this image, but it needs a lot of TLC. I guess that's what the Connecticut winter is for.

Nice start. Looks pretty complete and original. But, if it has a low serial number, sometimes the first year early '75's are worth more restored rather than modified. Not suggesting any particular path - and they made lots of them - but adding a gentle reminder. At the very least, don't cut unless committed.

The last 4 digits of the VIN are in the 8000's. The frame and final drive numbers are close enough to be the original parts, so I think the mechanical bits are original. The rest is either not original or in poor shape.

It might be better to restore it from a financial point of view. Not sure, I should do the math. Wasn't looking for an investment when I got it.

welcome to classic ...im joedrum and the owner of hooch bike ..witch is a 77 yr bike ...highly modified with 1200 motor ...in a low budget way...and still retains a lot of stock ways ...but also one of the fastest oldwings out there ...im in glastonbury CT at the moment ...visiting my daughter...not sure how far away you are from me ...maybe we can get together ....

joedrum, Stamford - Glastonbury is about 80 miles. I'm changing the timing belts this weekend. Happy to try to meet up at some future date if you are still in CT.
