I have the side mounted dip stick and I was thinking I would cut half the tube and place a plastic tube over the cut to see the oil. Not cutting all the way through the tube but just cut a slice out of the side of the tube.

Do you think that will work?

Not a bad idea!

Let us know how it turns out.

from the outlet at the oil drain how high should I cut the side(slice).2 inches 3 inches? How high does your oil go Dan?
A bit hard to tell exactly where the low and high should be because I never marked it for low but it looks like,
Measuring up from the horizontal line of the tube, start at 1-1/2" and slit up to 3".

You could run a level line from your current low mark on your oil level window. Bike on center stand, tie a string to the frame on the right side behind the engine inline with the oil window and run it forward past the exhaust to the front of the engine. Place a level at the end of the string and mark the location.

Could also measure from the ground up to the oil level window and take that measurement to the tube.
