Riding with the wind in your face is fun to a point. But, in my opinion, there is nothing like salt spray and the cold wind in your face out in the ocean! All last week I was out on a tanker that our company designed and it was time for sea trials and endurance runs.

Now this is FUN!!

That is one thing I do miss about the Navy. It was a pain leaving port and it was a lot of fun coming home, but the times at sea were also a lot of fun. I could do a week here or there, but my brother is away for a 9 month cruise right now... I lost interest in that kind of fun!

I could only imagine what that must be like with such mass and power at your finger tips!

What are some of the details about that ship?
This is a sludge tanker (one of three being built) for New York City Department of Environmental Protection. It holds about 140,000 Cubic Feet of sewage sludge (don't ask!). They are 290' long by 70' wide and about 3,650 horsepower. There are controllable pitch propellers meaning that they never stop rotating in one direction. The propeller blades rotate around and change pitch which is what changes the direction of the thrust.

There are just as many women on ships today as there are men. Just don't get caught with one in a compromising position
