Yes, the big screw and little screw. lightly seat then 2 1/2 turns out.

Just another added note. Remember the loud sound (like marbles) towards the left rear of engine. It appears to be worse. I might have to ditch this engine. Still need to take it for a test ride though.

Also, the starter made a very weird sound which did not sound good. That's intermittent though. Bike starts right up.

p.s. would have achieved a little more yesterday but spent the morning in the ER. Kidney stone decided to take a little trip down my urethra, I have had about 10 of these in the last 15 years, thanks to my mom's DNA.
Good news no more pain. Pretty sad when a kidney stone is travelling more than me. Time to ride :moped:

The rattle....does it go away, increase or lessen when warmed up?
Lessen or increase under a load?
What are the compression readings? Single carb is pretty much inherently "synced" on all 4 cylinders but low compression on one can bring on a rattle similar to when the stock rack is out of sync. A weak spark on one same thing.
Just saying I wouldn't abandon the engine just yet without checking other things. Also a rattle in that back area doesn't necessarily mean these engines are trash. Should listen to a 1000 lol.

Seems to increase the faster I go
Have not checked compression
Sparks are good
One coil is cracked

Stator bolt is tight...spark on all 4...still need to know compression readings.

running rather nice ...hmmm cracked coil can screw the timing up ...and be off ..and it can effect 2 cylinders ..so pretty big deal ..im doubting thats it but want to mention it ...need to get better upgrade coils ...it for sure wont handle moisture most likely....

single seems good ...seeing how your not riding it yet ..should idle it for long while with a good fan on the radiator to keep cooled down and after a long idle session ...plug plugs and check them to see plug color to determine if its running rich or lean or just right at idle ...idle dial in is essential for good off idle to work good .. opcorn:

Also check plugs are the same brand, heat range, and gap.

Hmm I'm out of ideas.

I took her out again and actually, when going about 50mph , I pulled in the clutch and the rattle lessened. So the faster I go, the faster and louder the rattle, then the rattle slows down and lessens when I pull in clutch

I think this single is running pretty well. No hesitation. lots of power.


Okay, This might be related to the rattle but maybe not. my starter is going out. Only engages part of the time and when it doesn't its making a horrible grinding noise.

Took her out again today and i dont know if i fiddled with something to cause this. yesterday when i opened up the throttle , there were no issues. today when i wanted a high speed takeoff, she bogged down, appearing to want to go but giving intermittent bursts of power. Strange.

Float height for single carb usually needs lowered some. That might be the issue or part of it. Or it may be leaking a little air at one of the connections.

hmmmm ... as said before take plugs out to see how there burning ...i maybe fouling the plugs up and to rich ...you have to expect this ...this is a mod job ...and im sure dialing in the carb some is needed ...and as v said ..it might be leaking air a bit ...plug check tells a lot ...even what cylinder might be sucking in some air maybe ... :builder: :mrgreen:
