the next move on the hooch project is to put a 83 mag wheel on the 1000 swing arm ... this will change the wheel size from 17" spoke to 16" mag wheel that will i think match the 1200 wheel on the front of hooch good enough ...there different but not a lot different .....the 1000 swing arm is a lot bigger than the 1100 in tire clearance i am thinking ...it dose not have the brake arm problem that the 1100 swing arms do ....but i dont really know for sure but will find out ... if it doesnt work and i have to use 1100 swing arm ... i have got one already modded to go on it already and this would also change the gearing a lot ... there is also modding the 1100 final drive to the 1000 swing arm with a spacer ...this will be looked at hugely as it seems the best of both worlds ...as for sure the 1000 swing arm is much more stout than the 1100 swing arm and the gearing change would be perfect on hooch :thanks:

The '83 swingarm is slightly different that the '80-'82. It has more wheel/tire clearance. I don't think it has the brake line mounts, since the metal line attaches to the frame on the '83.

well close steve the wider 1100 awing arms are 82 and 83 ... they both use 16" wheel ...different swing arm ... as in tire width ... ans also different driveshaft and rear collar setup ....80-81 are the more narrow ones and come with 17" wheel and skinnier tire set up

ok all the wheel swapping options and various ideas have trickle down to ... 1100 swing arm swap as only way to 1100 wheel on hooch ... this would also raise the gearing ... this has to be a plus id say ...hooch could use taller gearing .... the only other option i have is lester wheel or some other after market rim to fit the 1000 final...hooch already has

the good thing is i have already done this mod and have all the pieces the bad thing is finding it all LOL :fishin: :fiddle:  :thanks:

total misalignment of the drive gears rings ..and no way to change them as 1100 is 5 bolt pattern and 1000 is 6 bolt ... on 1000 wheel the final drive laps over the wheel ... and on the 1100 wheel laps over the final drive .....

okay this has officially turn into 1100 swingarm switch in to 1000 frame ... the deaded looking for the c clip pliers to remove the dam thing ive in about 20 minutes already looking for them sheesh ....

this is probably the best thing ... it will up the gearing and hopfully make hooch much more manageable in first gear ... witch is huge benny to go along with better tire choices ...

i look at all avenues today on how this could be done ...and there were simply road blocks in all other ways ...

so im confident this will be best thing now :thanks:

You're gonna take away all the fun!!! Just use second in the yard. The 1100 will be a good swap though. If you like to hit highways the 1200 would be okay. I know you're not a fan of 1200's but they improved the wheel bearings in 85 or 86.

the thing about 1200s is that on a 1000 there is a 1" difference from where the motor out put shaft is and the 1100 or 1200 swingarm mounting spot ... the 1200 shaft would have to cut and shorten plus the wheel is 15" 16" is just better ... no eric hooch is no fun what so ever in first ... bacause of the weber and bacuse how i adjusted the progressive linkage where secondary comes in at 1/2 throttle ...hooch breaks traction every time the secondary comes in....in first till the rpms are fairly high up there ... i truly think this will make hooch faster with its weber ... just to much bounce going into secondary for first gear ... i can see stock carbs doing better here be smoother and not feel like a gear change .... plus there will be plenty of road gear with this final ....the wheels will match enough and things will be tubeless .. i am going to finish this swing arm with maxium width and may go car tire for some longivity to the beast and this might add to some road eating instead of tire burning ...that the name of the game anyway.... :thanks:

no guys this is staring to get to final set up .... i am making a bike that honda didnt make ..i chosen paths that honda left and went another way ....i have taken the advantages as i seen them of all the honda stuff and created my own version ...this dose stop at the motor ....hooch frame and contact to the road had to be made better .....and it is just simply a rocket in present set up ... adjusting the gearing with again honda parts of different yrs ....is the best way and cheapest way to do this ....there is a lot of stuff honda made i think nothing of .....and this bike will have none of that stuff on it ... there is no benefit in having a to low first gear to me ... others might like that ....as i guess it is fun to burn rubber and buy tires .....what i want is to move out .... so this is nothin more than putting the tires ..the gearing and the lowering of the saddle for rider front and back... to improve over the honda set up as they did it ....

one of things i really like about the 1000s is its shorter wheel base ... this mod im doing has increased that some it like half wat between 1000 wheel base and 1100 wheel base ...looked at everything trying to keep it the same just wasnt possible ... but this set up dose lower the seat hight just a bit and has huge effect on it handling :thanks:

ok this shows a 1100 swing arm in 1000 frame ... there is mucho amount work and machining to get to this point to pivot pins on a 1000 and the sleeves ... to be honest the 1000 set up was the best honda ever made ...it was stronger in all ways how it is done in the frame and the swing arm itself is much stronger than the 1100 or 1200 setup and its totally adjustable for tracking ....i will get this with this mod i am doing ... but the swing arm is weaker ... there is no doutb about that ...i tried every thing to come up with the use of the 1000 swing arm and get the gearing i wanted just no way without some major mods i cant afford to do :builder: more coming as it goes along ...i will try to keep pics coming :thanks:

this shows a pic of how much more room i am going to get in the wide tire factor over the 140x90x16 tire that is in picture .....there well be welding going on soon here .... there will be some welding going on the other side to as the 1100 swing arm will have the brake arm removed ... and set up more like the 1200 is ...i am assuming honda figured how dumb the 1100 set up was and they got rid of the dumb tire rubbing bar on the 1200 swing arm ...... :thanks:

well now that everything is all layed out on what i am going to do with the swing arm mods ... the next step is to put the 1000 swing arm and wheel back on ...jp winger coming down for a visit and have to able to ride ... thats one of the neat things about this ...in no way dose this mod screw up using the 1000 swing arm and final drive so hooch can go with either set up ... any time i want to change the gearing :thanks:

now that all the mock up i needed to do is done for maxium tire width and brake rod elimination .. hooch is back to 1000 gearing and ready to ride as soon as i find the c clip pliers to put that back on ......

the cool thing about this is hooch will except all the gearing honda made for goldwing final drives ....the 1000 1100 and 1200 final drives are all plug and play ... :thanks:

So, I am digging these possibilities! What mods need to be done to the 1100 and 1200 swingarms. Was it narrowing the swing arms? Or the frame? I am guessing the calipers need to be swapped as well, but if the same caliper could be used, and a the swingarm, final drive, shaft, rim, tire, and disc could be swapped as one unit, it would make for a fairly easy swap out. I have to move the caliper on mine to the back to make the it easier. The way I beefed up the swingarm and added the monoshock, left the design engineer (me) out of the process. Mine is a bear to swap. If I could just have to pull the two swing arm bolts, the circlip, the shock, and the caliper, roll one out, roll the other in and reassemble. That would be cool.
