wire in power outlet ... cigarette lighter?

84 Interstate, I want to wire in a power jack to run my Iphone, both for charge/maps n tunes, where is the best place to hook in? See there is a blank on the upper right hand side of fairing above the glove box..... actually prefer to bury it inside the box .... what wires do I look for? what colors might they be? Don't see it on wiring diagrams, although I tend to not see a lot thats right in front of me! ....... Crowe ...... :Egyptian:

my power outlet is in the same place you are looking at ( on my 1200 wing ) and is connected direct to the battery so i don't have to have the bike " on " just to charge up my phone

Yeah hooked up through the key switch is a pain.
When I run with my Garmin gps, every time I'd turn the key off I'd have to turn the Garmin back on after starting the bike.
Straight to the battery is much better, with a fuse inline of course.

Mine is hooked up to the accessory fuse in the fuse box. Turns on and off with the key!

With 18 gauge wire minimum, a 15 amp fuse is fine.
