Burt was just like everybody else! BUT he did something a bit different, he realised & acted on the fact that if you don't try to have a good time you never will. :hihihi: If the movie is true to his character, seemed like he shared what he knew, & didn't much care what anybody thought, only trying to impress himself. More of US around than many people may think. Never made much cash, but tried to have a good time with what i had, because you'll die chasing money, if you don't. :salute:

ok this thread is about ....1200 wheel mod for car tire ...i guess i will update as ive got several thousand miles on bike since done ...the vw bug tire is not all that wide and it dose seem to curve a bit ...im so glad i did it ...it raised the gearing above 1500 gearing and is total pleasure to travel with ..on the road there is simply no discounts at all ....and now i think that engineered MC tires are total rip off and just plain dangerous ....take that egg heads of tire tech

i might also add traction is so much better that hooch raises the wheel instead of spin the worthless MC tire.....it also stops fast ..making rear braking a great thing instead of a dangerous joke ...hooch brings the wheel off the ground with ease and you go strait ..instead of chassey jacking around in a circle from shaft drive ...

Glad its working well for you. :clapping: My only real concern EVER was about the ability to really lean the bike over in a curve-turn, & not have to give up ANYTHING in this aspect. :eek:k: Appeared to me EVERYTHING ELSE could only improve, with a car tire, & could one do the front as well? :headscratch:

to me your right denver ...and on the leaning side with the tire i have ...i like the car tire again better ...with mc tires that fit wings its like your on a edge....with my natural body strength my bike leans way to easy .....so the extra feel of more rubber on the road is actually a help and confidence builder to me ....i have no discounts at all ...seems tires made for oldwings are just dangerous in comparison

I think if you are not scaping pegs Joe you are not leaning your OldWings enough

i do once in awhile ...but tony i cant compete with you ....i think you would love how hooch feels the way things are now ...im going to try more frame mods to improve even more ....

Joe, did you change to a 1200 rim just for the tire size difference? I was wondering about changing my 1000 rim to fit a car tire but a 17" tire would be fairly expensive I would imagine. Is there anything else that needs to be changed to use a 1200 rim on a 1000?

To use the 1200 rim you'll need the 1200 drive. I can't recall if any part of the 1200 drive shaft is needed linked to a 1000 motor. Joe is using the 1200 rear complete I think.

Thanks Slab, is Joe using the 1000 motor mated to a 1200 final and rear end?

I thought so, any idea if a 1200 final can be mated to a 1000 motor?

I'd need to check with Joe to be sure but i think the 1000 driveshaft will fit the 1200 final. The bolt holes on the swingarm will need elongated though to fit the 1200 final.

Pics look like Joe has a 1100 or 1200 swingarm and final drive, which is longer than the 1000 swingarm. I would think the drive shaft would be too short. Maybe we're talking final output shafts??

ok sorry i missed all the ? to me ....the 1000 bikes are the hardest to switch final drives on ...biggest reason is the pivot pins are much different than the pivot pins on 1100s and 1200s ..there the same ...the 1000 pivot pins are much bigger and have to be turn down to fit 1100 or 1200 swing arms ...this is all about the frame excepting the swing arms ...

the other problem is with the 1000 motor is its gearing ....first gear is very tall in 1000 motors ...this is from the secondary primary reduction gearing this gearing is the tallest of all oldwing4 motors....if the 1000s didnt have such low geared swing arm they wouldnt have and very good first gear ....i have had a 1100 swing arm and 1000 motor set up for a few yrs in the mongrel bike i had ...first was tall ...it wasnt to bad ...but in the hills of indiana it was a bit much and idle speed in first gear is quite fast..... i never considered the mongrel bike something that coiuld pull a trailer ....so with a 1200 swing arm and car tire mod put in a 1000 bike and motor it would be much worst ...as an opinion id say this is a miss match and would not do well ....1100 swing arm to me is the tallest a 1000 could handle ....

this is one of the reasons i went with the 1200 motor in the 1000 frame ...as the 1200 motors and the 83 1100 motors have the widest gear spread in the motor ...

long story short in a 1000 motor bike ...you can get a good road gear in fifth but first gear would be like a second gear ...and 1000 motor is worst candidate for swing arm change as is the frame ....no plug and play what so ever ...lot of mod work ...and if you go with a 1100 swing arm change as i did ...my very first oldwing mod ever ....the drive shaft is a mating of two different shafts and a nightmare and the hardest of all swing arm tranplants....

all swing arm changes take brakes and wheel changes also...

sorry rob im sure this is not what you wanted to read ...and i hope its explained well
