Should be rh as the genuine part would say left hand if that was the case. If a bolt is really tight I always give it a little tighten to break any frozen threads or a couple of good taps with a drift.

Got that main seal replaced. Im confident i have solved my minor oil drip. Seal pushed in another 1/8" when i went to sink my screw in it to remove it. I think the PO tried to replace it and botched the job. Sure wasnt factory. Anyway, smooth sailin now. Just gotta put the radiator back on and fill er up.

Excellent! :clapping:
+1 :good:

Alright boys. So i seem to have fixed the leaky seals by the belt cogs. Now I have a leak comming from somewhere else. Sheesh, seems like I have to re do everything the PO touched. I am thinking its coming from the head gasket. There is a fine layer of oil on the bottom of the engine when the bike is on the center stand. I think its coming from the head gasket maybe? I've done lots of things to my bikes and i dont fear too much. I've not done a head gasket job before though. Any advice for me? Kinda sucks to hav to take that dang radiator off again. That makes 3 times so far in about a month. :fiddle:

Try to be more specific. Remember, oil flows down. Find the heaviest oil spots and follow upward to the highest point where it gets clean. A common set of leaks are the tachometer drive seal on the right and the shifter seal on the left.

Ok. So i looked at the head for that bolt. It is indeed in but it sure does look like the oil is leaking from the head its got that discoloration of oil n coolant tryin to mix. Dang it, i fix one leak and come up with another. Is it time for a new head gasket? Relatively straight forward? Unbolt the head, change the gasket, put it all back together? Any tricks or tips from guys who have done it?

Also, i have a leaky fuel pump as well. Its coming from the weep hole. Can i take the pump apart and clean it?

From the pic, it looks like the oil leak is much higher than the 10 MM head bolt. Oil could be leaking from the exhaust manifold and down to that bolt. I am not trying to say that it is definitely not a head gasket, but I wouldn't pull the head just yet.

hmmm the fuel pump could be the cause here of all things ....it his is same head that the bolt was leaking from .... time to fix this fuel pump for sure ...it is putting gas in the oil ...i am sure stop riding it and fix this ...take valve cover off and you will probably see signs of gas there or huge odor of it ... replacing fuel pump with good one may fix everything ...after changing oil ... seens the motor flush time is over to say the least ... bet even oil filter will be gassy smelling ... thats where id go first ...after its open up ..valve cover off ... i dont think head gasket is blown at the moment...take pics and post what you find and smell

I got down and really checked that. Its not the exhaust manifolds. They are dry and clean. The leak is all around that bolt area.

Do i need to replace the fuel pump straight away or can i try to clean it first? I just had the valve cover off the other day. No gassy smell, but i wasnt lookin for that either. The PO said that he replaced the head gaskets, that is my main concern. So far I have had to redo several of the things he fixed.

I guess what im askin is, 1- are there rebuild kits for this like there are for carbs. And 2 - Is the job worth doing, if a rebuild kit is necessary, or should I just replace it at that point?

Ps. Im pretty sure i have a bad gasket on the right side. Pretty obvious really. Poor lighting in the pics.

im not sure whats out there in fuel pumps .... many are switched to electric also ... if head gasket is blown ...just have at it ....while head gasket or both head gaskets are going on....... fuel pump can be figured there is a rebuild deal for it ..someone here has done it ... not a easy thing though....
