If it didn't take paint so long to dry, I'd have the final drive in. As it is, I have the swingarm in and waiting for it. After that I can start it without upsetting the neighborhood because the exhaust system is next.

Yesterday I got the swingarm, final drive, rear wheel/tire on. Its time to put the exhaust, rear fender, and some tupperware on.

I was going to repaint everything now, but I was able to score a complete set of tupperware for $25, and I also got another rear fender for an 1100I. I can take my time and paint every thing and also work on fine tuning the engine/carb combination.

I also have something to figure out a with the shift sensor. I have no neutral light when the bike is in neutral nor an OD light when the transmission is in OD.

Grounding either wire should cause the indicator to light up with power on. Once each is identified it should be just a matter of which terminal to attach it to on the switch. In neutral the only terminal on the switch that will read "grounded" is the one for the neutral light.

OD will light when grounded. I still need to cut the wire for the neutral light to see what it does. If I find that it is inside the motor, I'm going to live without the lights.

Maybe just got the wrong gear indicator wire?
If I remover right you have the later gear indicator that shows all gears? Try going thru all the gears an see if neutral light comes on.

I need to take a closer look at the wires... the green and orange look very much like the green and red, so who knows what I have, other than no lights at all.

:smilie_happy:

The exhaust is on and the neighbors are happy! I also found that the gear selector switch is defective: no continuity in either neutral, 4th or OD. Looks like I get no lights for a while. Oh, and I need to rebuild the rear brake master cylinder. One step forward... two steps back.

Onward!

Working on a tach that doesn't work... :head bang:

GL1200 Wiring Diagram.JPG

I know the green wire is the ground coming off of the tach is the ground, and the yellow/blue wire connects to the green signal wire from the C5. Does the electronic tach require a connection from the 7 volts regulator?

According to Haynes it doesn't. but according to the diagram above, it does.

Thanks!

For the first time since November 9, 2015 my 1100... err my '81 rolled out of the garage under it's own power!

It wasn't a long ride because it is raining, but I got everything on it so why wait. I have some more adjusting to do to the carb but boy howdy that was fun!
