Bad engine noises

I was always worried about oil pump and/or supplementary oil pump and shaft, it may also be drive gears etc for the pump. If not this maybe some of the starter sprag drive assembly but less likely as the engine is winding on the starter still. Shrapnel means tear down the engine imo :(

Eureka!!! I think I found the problem! One of the curved metal plates riveted in the rotor came loose from it's rivet. I have another rotor and need to check if it is good. That makes sense with the noise I heard.

Entirely up to you on the conversion.
I'd personally not.

Not sure I'd try to repair either rotor.
Put a wanted in the for sale forum, someone may have a good one or check eBay.

I have a couple 1100 rotors, you can have one for shipping but I don't know if it'll fit a 1000.

Thank you Dan for the offer, but I just ordered one for $32 off e-bay.

How did the stator make out?

Yes...inquiring minds want to know if the loose piece scarred up the stator windings?? Might need to replace the stator "while you're in there".... :builder:

Tough call, you will spend as much for just the alternator for the conversion as you would a new stator and you still have the covers to cut, pulley to buy (don't go cheap on the pulley) brackets etc.
