seems allot are using the dot4, I use dot 3 myself because I have a big bottle but dot4 and 3 are interchangeable so no real worries about flushing the system totally clean, dot 4 has a bit higher boiling point but I don't think my dot 3 gets anywhere near it`s boiling point, not how I drive.

I use dot 3 in everything I have but it all older stuff. I've nothing against dot4 just that i have a lot of the dot 3 and keep buying it.

You can go with either Dot 3 or Dot 4. They are compatible with one another, and as one responder said, the only real advantage of Dot 4 over Dot 3 is a higher boiling point.

With that being said, resist any urge to go with the newer synthetic Dot 5 as it is incompatible.

Cant go wrong with DOT 4. People think that there fluid does not get that hot, but it definitely does right at the calipers. 1100 and up all use DOT 4 and I would NEVER put DOT 3 in a machine that calls for DOT 4, however you CAN put DOT 4 in anything that calls for DOT 3.

Thanks for the responses, I believe I'll go dot 4.
why not try DOT5.1, it is a glycol based and is compatible with 3-4 and has the same boiling point as 5..not to be confused with dot5 which is silicone based.

Pardon the :0fftopic: but wut happens if the fluid boils?
It vaporizes, vapors don't compress so well and lose hydraulics.

Lol, for sure doc!

I had my brakes fade to nothing in my service van.
It was on a very long downgrade in a residential neighborhood.
Locals of L.A should know it if you watch the news. Recently a trash truck plowed over a police car on this grade.
I'm going down this thing in first gear using brakes only enough to keep it at 25-30 mph. Not easy to do. Got to the bottom and barely stopped by standing on the brakes.
Scary.
Needless to say, I avoid that road now.
