As ya'll may recall I had busted teeth in my engine, along with stator issues. I pulled the motor and with direction and parts from Gerry, I put the motor back together and put it into the bike. I put a new stator in while the motor was out, but I'm not too confident about my clutch work, but we'll see.

I wanted to surprise everyone by throwing the motor back into "THE BLUE GOOSE" and just uploading a video of bike purring like a kitten.....BUT,
My issue is that she won't start. I can't figure out what I missed. (Initially I forgot the "hot" wire going to the starter, I felt like a real doo-doo...lol) But I can't think of anything else. When I push the button, I get absolutely nothing, the battery is definitely hot.

I'm thinking that I disconnected the electric start button and did not reconnect it. BUT, since I do not know what it looks like, I don't know what to look for.

I'm going to take a video of the bike and TRY to upload it to the site and hopefully someone can see something that I missed.

I can't upload the video that I've taken. I'll keep trying to upload.
Video and file uploads are VERY limited in size because server space is at a premium.
It's best to upload it to Youtube then link the video, or to some online file storage site like Google drive then I can put the video on our Youtube page.

OHHHH YEAh!!!!!.....I keep forgetting that. Ok I'm going to youtube. But, the neutral safetry switch is NOT hook up. I read that could cause an issue. But I actually (don't laugh) don't remember where the switch is located in order to hook in back up.

hmmmmm well ..early yet cant be to bad yet

I think my problem in the neutral safety switch and/or the clutch safety switch. I know that the neutral safety switch isn't hooked up because it's laying on the ground and I have no idea where it attaches too.

well you can always turn the starter by jumping at solenoid ..right of battery ......make sure its in nutruel ....and the key is on ..to start ... could test that to see if starter is ok anyway ....

On an '82 the neutral switch in inside the front engine cover, and is operated by the shift drum. There is a single wire that passes out the top of the cover through a rubber grommet.

Yes, thanks, I think I'll go straight to the starter from the solenoid.
I don't think the starter is bad, I purchased it in Oct 2014 and only rode the bike for 2 weeks before I accidentally killed my perfectly running motor (I put WAY too much oil in it and the oil was too heavy... straight 30)

Try pulling the clutch in. It should crank over if everything else is connected.

I'll go try pulling the clutch first, then I'll go straight to the starter if not successful. Thanks.

BINGO, the neutral safety switch not being hooked up is the issue ( I believe) because she spins the motor over when I pull the clutch in. It didn't start, but it spun.

When the neutral safety switch run out from the motor, where does it dead end at?

the first video link: the unconnected lead goes to the fan.

Excellent!!! The fan was the furthest thing from my mind. Can you describe to me where the neutral safety switch (gl1100) runs to after it comes out of the front of the motor? Mine has a "union" on it, but I for get where it ran to. I'll take a picture of it and post it so you can see what I'm talking about.

There has been some hacking of the wiring so it's hard to know now what goes where for sure but the neutral safety wire comes out the front cover on the right side, then connects to a wire coming from the harness above.

I have to hold the clutch in but, she "hollers back", when I call...lol

:moped:
I still haven't found where the other end of the neutral safety switch goes, but I decided to pull the dash board apart and just follow the wire from the neutral light and see where it ends, then attach the loose wire to it and see what happens.

DOES CGW UNDERSTAND HOW BENIFICIAL AND INFORMATIVE YOU ARE FOR NOVICE WINGERS, LIKE MYSELF. I WOULD HAVE NEVER ATTEMPTED THIS REBUILD ON MY OWN. I WOULD JUST BOUGHT ANOTHER MOTOR AND SWAPPED IT, OR PUT IT IN THE SHOP. I APPRECIATE EVERYTHING MORE THAT I CAN EXPLAIN.
