I have to hold the clutch in but, she "hollers back", when I call...lol
:yahoo:
:moped:
I still haven't found where the other end of the neutral safety switch goes, but I decided to pull the dash board apart and just follow the wire from the neutral light and see where it ends, then attach the loose wire to it and see what happens.

I have to put the exhaust pipes back and see how she sounds (I think I hear a knock)...but I'm still hyped that she fired up.

My plan is to finish putting the bike back together (even if I don't have the neutral switch hook up for now) and get a little bit of riding (nothing long, actually nothing more that a 50 mile radius) before I load "the blue goose" up and drag her to Louisiana in a couple of weeks. If anything jumps out that makes any of you says "whoa", let me know.

Excellent progress!! Until you have the carbs in sync, she'll knock and buck a bit.
+1 :good:

This is how she runs in idle. BUT....My biggest issue is the somehow I lost 1st gear. I don't know what I did (wrong) but I only have 2 gear, on. Can anyone think of something that I may have done or not done that may be fixable without pulling the motor again? I'm hoping it's something that can be fix by just pulling the front cover..

Thanks in advance

Hey Jersey!! Just got back in town and saw your work!! We will get that carb synced! As far as gears.......my only assumption (for what it is worth) is that a shifter fork is not set correctly in the transmission.

Which transmission did you use? Someone else will come along if they have a different idea.

I used my original transmission. I just swapped the crank and the transmission drive shaft. I hope I don't have to pull this motor again. I was looking at the other transmission, trying to figure out what I could have done wrong, but I'm stumped. I was hoping it was something in the front cover....but for what it's worth 2 and 3 gear run nice....lol

I think it's possible the neutral safety switch might be gumming things up. Seems I read something to that effect.

If it shifts both up and back down okay, all I can think of is shifter fork.

Damn.

Yup, she shifts up and down, motion wise. But there's no, cluck into first gear when the shifter is pushed down. I may not have 4th and 5th either. I Only ran it up to 3rd gear. I'll find out in the morning, if I have 4th and 5th.

If I have to pull it again, I'll just slap a running motor in and split this one when I get it back to Louisiana. So, if anyone knows of a motor, keep me in mind.

Ok, I cleared out room in the garage, ready to pull the engine and see what I did wrong with the transmission. I have another transmission to look at. I just couldn't see how I could have done anything wrong and the 2 halves bolt up so easily. Then (like many other times), Great Lakes, Illionios (navy bootcamp) kicks in.....all I hear is someone say KISS your problems away.
Keep It Simple Stupid.......THEN BINGO!!!!! IT HIT ME!!!!

I had to wait for EXHAUST to cool down. The shifter was barely hitting the chrome cover that on my exhaust pipe...I pulled it off, turned it about 15 degrees and that when the magic happened.....FIRST GEAR WAS REBORN!!! LOL

She started rev-ing up to 3000 then dropping back down.....I'll just blame that on carb being out of sync, until I get help adjusting them.

oh my :smilie_happy: gee it nice when stupid move turns into ok motor ....great jersey i bet your feeling good now ... shifter not quite right ...actually very smart to think to check that ...well done :heat:

Holy Mackeral!! That was a real find!! :Egyptian: :clapping:

All 5 gears working now?
