Ok, not trying to start a debate on the pros and cons of it, imho, if I was doing the type of riding Joel is and in the traffic conditons he runs in everyday, I'd be darksideing that baby with a run flat rear tire and front if I could find one, faster than a cat trying to cover up poop on a hot tin roof.

Lottsa fun waiting for that, with the traffic blastin by at record speeds, since it was just past the downtown bottleneck, where it opens up, and folks just put the pedal to da metal. And me with no-where to go if someone decided to swerve a few inches to the left. On the bridge, with a 40ft(or more) drop.....

Wow that sounds very scary..
Never had a flat on freeways.

Can you buy tire insurance?
Every time I go to American Tire for car tires, they try to sell that.
I don't buy it because obviously odds are against the buyers.

Joel still need a tire? I have a brand new one not yet installed on a rim.. 130/90-17...... let me know... the one on my 81 ifs still serviceable so not needed immediately.... ..

:thanks: Joe! But I ordered a new Dunlop yesterday from Bike Bandit. I'm starting my own "Scratch & Dent" bike tire collection here.... :smilie_happy:
The shop manager says he has a bunch of new bike tires, still in factory wrapping...he's going to check and see if he has any in the sizes that would fit the '81, and bring them to me. We shall see...might be a good change to have a "spare" or two...

Seriously another Dunlop!?! Isn't it about time to try a Metzler or something else?
What I was thinking too :headscratch:

:Awe: REALLY?!?!?!?
I spent a few HOURS yesterday(don't tell my boss...) researching tires, and reading reviews. They don't make a tire with a higher load rating to fit my '81. Iirc, Metzler doesn't have a "normal" tire to fit. Even the higher end companies with the $300 tires don't have one my size....not that I would pay that much for one that will STILL only last 4-6000 miles.
The name on the tire isn't really responsible for road debris....or for my goofy azz runnin over said debris, so a different brand isn't gunna correct that particular issue. I've b :sensored: ed and moaned ad nauseum here about tire life on my ride, but it seems that a lots of others are getting aboot the same milage out of their tires as I do. I know a tire with a higher load rating would last longer....I just know it would, but....they don't MAKE ONE to fit! :head bang:
The only way to "solve" the problem is to get a different bike....one that they actually have a selection of tires for....and that's gunna be a hard sell to Mama.... :smilie_happy:

:thanks: ....why dint I think of that? :Doh2: :cheeky:

:smilie_happy:  :smilie_happy:

Imma thinkin aboot maybe building a cow--catcher for the front...then I could just plow that stuff off to the side, and not hafta worry aboot it. Still tryin to engineer how to mount it so it will stay horizontal, and not lean with me in the turns..... :builder:
:hihihi:

How 'bout a scoop or scraper, made of stiff rubber, attached to the swingarm, installed just ahead of the rear tire? Maybe 1/2" or so off the ground? Sorta like a pre-mud flap...

No but they make a 6 ply rated.. Shinko makes one I had it on my 81 previously... found this on their Shinko tire - us website.... Shinko has a 230 tour master in a 827 max load at 42psi.. 130/90-17 ... it is a 4 ply rated v rated for speed.

KYwinger has a real nice '83 that has wheels that they make tires for! Just needs your engine! :builder: :ahem:

DANG!!!
I ordered the tire from Bike Bandit yesterday around 3pm, and got the shipping info today aboot an hour ago....here's the tracking info:

DAAAAANG!!!! It'll be at the house prolly by the time I get home today! Now THAT'S service! :smilie_happy: I wonder who the heck they got it from locally? I've called every place in the area to find tires for this thing, and NO-ONE EVER has them in stock. It's kewl tho...now I can change that b :sensored: h out this weekend, and be back in bidness! Yahoooooo! :yahoo:

Of course, the oil filter I ordered at the same time is coming from somewhere else... :headscratch: I ordered the filter because I was aboot $1.00 short of getting free shipping with just the tire, so I added the filter to push the total over the edge. Hopefully, the tire packaging will have the source on it, and I will have that info for next time(in a few months) I needs a tire.... :smilie_happy:

I can't compete with steel Joel but the rocks are real sharp on the dreaded driveway and the Metzeler Lazertech is handling it really well atm. I have the speedo working again so maybe I can give some actual mileage. I have already put 4 tanks of gas on it so far and love it ( still haven't had enough rain to really know about wet weather performance, but it works well on wet roads). I certainly think the Shinko 230s would be a good choice for you if your tires are suffering damage before you can wear them out if you fit them yourself. At only $150 USD for a set that's good value if you don't pay fitting on top...
