Every once and a while I will see a dipstick that sticks out the left side of the bike by the timing cover.I see one on ONETEDs bike in the altenator conversion thread.
Where do I find one like this?

I dont much care for the one that goes straight out the front, and dont want to remove the spoiler I have, but with the hack its gotten harder to check the oil.

Ive seen one like oneteds before, just dont know who makes it or where to buy it.

I believe they attach at the drain with a banjo type connection.

the more i look at that dan the more i like it, youve had that on there for awhile are you pleased with it. sure makes checking the oil easy plus you can see what condition its in :eek:k:

I love it! At a glance I can check the level and see how dirty it is.
I am alittle concerned about a plastic tube out there in front but like everything else I keep an eye on it.

several places sell the aftermarket dipsticks like JC WHITNEY... about $40.. and I have seen it on other providers sites... seem to be an affordable option...

That is the one that goes out the front that I dont want. The one I am looking for goes out the side.JC Whitney does not offer that one.

Tell me about it,Who ever made them must be out of business now.Ive only seen a small few,but always on bikes, never new in package so to speak.
Ill just keep searching EBAY and swap meets. :Awe:

know anyone who could modify a small block chevy aftermarket dipstick and tube??? the one from JCWhitney you still have to calibrate it to your bike after install... you make your own markings on the stick as it is not level marked when manufactured.... adaptation would be the next step to get one long enough..

Dan, I'm curious as to what tubing you used, and where you got it? You don't seem to have it closed off either? Doesn't oily vapor come out the tube? I guess you just cut off a dipstick tube, right?

I cut off a JC Whitney dipstick tube. The clear tube is the Poly stuff that Lowes has in the plumbing dept.
Nothing ever comes out the end of the tube. The oil level in the tube lowers when started then stays there.

I went from an '81 engine that I absolutely needed a dipstick to the '83 engine which has the redesigned oil window.

The '81 is that little tiny oblong window that I could never see in so I needed to crawl under the bike with a flashlight and I still was guessing.

The '83 has a 2" circle that I can see while I am standing up! It is so big (IMO) that I can see the oil circulating while the engine is running. I never transferred the dipstick. I do not think I am going to use one on this engine.

i was on the jc whitney website and couldn't find theirs. my niece just got an '82 nakked wing and i would love to get a dip stick for her bike

But this listing in JC is only for the 1000 1100 models... Dan does the 1200 have drain plug in the same location as the 1100??

Yes it does, I see no reason why the tube wont fit the drain plug. I think the drain plug is the same thread size.

The mount at the top of the dipstick tube would have to be modified to bolt on since the 1200 rad mounts are different than the 1000 and 1100.
