i was on the jc whitney website and couldn't find theirs. my niece just got an '82 nakked wing and i would love to get a dip stick for her bike

But this listing in JC is only for the 1000 1100 models... Dan does the 1200 have drain plug in the same location as the 1100??
i want it for my nieces '82 1100 not mine. i ordered new grips and highway pegs now i need a dip stick for her. who do you think is going to get stuck changing the oil on it

I had one of these on my GL1100-sidecar rig. It came with the outfit. It started to leak at the base. The plastic cracked and I could not repair it. I looked far and hard to find a replacement. They are no longer made. I ended up with the front mounted dipstick, since the window is useless with the sidecar on the right.

You are right about the sidecar being in the way, thats why I want a dipstick. The window on the 83 is not bad,but cant see it with the hack on.
I dont want the forward one becuase of an air dam that I want to keep.
Leaves me looking for a sideways mounted stick.like shown above

The front mounted dipstick is only a chrome covered pipe that seals with a normal compression fitting. I can't see why extending that pipe with a compression union and some more copper tubing sideways would not work. Then, I suppose you still have to make a dipstick for it, but I think a dipstick from a junkyard car could be cut and modified to fit the length of the tube? Then just mark your hign and low point with a file. (You have to do this with the JC Whitney stick anyway) Just suggestions.

I have an out of service engine with the JC Whitney stick. I might try this modification and let you know how it goes. (If it works, I'll post pics)

I needed to create a better "air dam" when I moved my radiator forward with the Poorboy alternator modification on my GL1100-I. The lower fairing pieces are molded for an air dam. However, with the radiator forward, they didn't work as well.

Solution, I found a pair of side mounting air dams from a GL1000. They screw on to the radiator frame on the side, and were easy to mount. They aren't perfectly mounted, and may even be mounted up-side-down. However, painted black, they look fine and work very well. That might be another solution for you to consider.

My JCW dip stick sits vertical right in front of the radiator. Not the most pleasing piece of chrome on the tug, but it is functional. I used a zip tie to secure it to the radiator protector, since the relocated radiator made the chrome support bracket that came with the dip stick kit non-functional.

One nice thing with a black bike, its easy to macth the paint.
I considered fabricating something, brazing a piece of 1/4 brakeline to a banjo fitting,or just drilling a hole in the air dam,but I can check the oil when the hack is on,but it requires a mirror and a flashlight, and the fact is Ive never had to add between changes so its not been to bad,Ill just wait and keep wacthing EBAY,eventually one will come around.

P.S. I know Im a bit late, but welcome to the group. You must have slipped in under my radar. Its not that good anymore.
Where is grand marius mn?And are you invovled with the SKUNK group?

Across the Lake from Grand Marais, MI, just south of the border on Hy 61. Yes, I am a SKUNK, although last year and this, I can't be at the rally because of High School graduations.

Well,Grand Maruis MI is a beuitifull place,I can only assume the same with Grand Maruis MN.Someday we will make a trip around GITCHE GUMEE,almost did last year, will have to look you up when I do.

Someday Ill even make the SKUNK rally, but like you said, timing is everything.

Put a J.C.Whitney dipstick on my 83.Had to remove the air dam on it to use the stick. It was a chrome piece but it was rusting anyway.Have a Randack spin on adapter also. With those items on it I couldn't use the spoiler anyway.
