I thought this was a brilliant but totally unworkable solution since the powerbase would never buy it....

The Fix

There recently was an article in the St. Petersburg, Florida Times. The Business Section asked readers for ideas on: "How Would You Fix the Economy?" I think this guy nailed it!

Dear Mr. President,

Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.

You can call it the "Patriotic Retirement Plan":

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new AMERICAN Car. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members in Congress pay their taxes..

Mr. President, while you're at it, make Congress retire on Social Security and Medicare. I'll bet both programs would be fixed pronto!

Sounds excellent to me.If I could only swap (#2) for an american bike I would be much happier

Electric cars have been around for 100 years. If they were feasable to use there'd be a market for them.

This is why I so hesitate to bring up something that disturbs peoples carefully built belief systems. I have no interest in having you believe differently than you do, facts or no facts. That is your job. To find out the facts for yourself.

I was merely trying to make a few points in defense of those who actually do believe we can make a difference and who are busily doing it while others seem to want to sit back and judge them for it.

It sounds like you have your mind made up and I don't blame you. It is way easier to just go with the status quo.

I don't know if I will be here but a lot of us will be around to see how it works out, won't we? My grandkids certainly will.

What I want proof of is the assertion that man has made any difference to this planet geologicaly or weatherwise. Can anyone name a single resource we've used up?

Nothing in particular at this moment, but I see a lot of parts disappearing which of course is normal for bikes this old.Of course the used parts resource will keep a lot of these bikes running for a long time.

I think the "fix" is an excellent start. I also believe that oil speculator's are a lot of the problem with our economy. Oil is a basic economic indicator like milk and bread and other such things. I believe we are getting fleeced, and, not using oil is the only way to really fight back. I've made my living working on things that run on oil, and my hobbies have also been fueled by oil, but I could give it all up to dethrone these guys.

I understand your point there and I'm willing to back you up if in return you could be kind enough to let me have that awesome wing & rig you got there on your avatar  :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:

well theres never been a better all terane vichicle like a horse ....im going to have one or two for sure .....we both operate on the same fuel ...it becomes a perfect match as it always was ....but i like the wings alot ...till the day they wont run for lack of food for them

I don't think it will be long before I start building an ultralite donkey wagon/camper so's I can keep touring....I don't care if I have to go slow...in fact it may be a really nice change of pace....though the scenery of a donkey's butt and flatulence might be less than I bargain for.....

We may find the Amish are way further ahead of us than we ever thought...not much will change for them....
