Give him a break guys. Those hay burners eat apples and carrots too. Seriously our economy cannot function without machinery. Even the Amish use cars, vans, phones and chain saws and compressors.

yes they do the amish use a lot of stuff thats moderin ...but the horse is a complete transportation system .....i have a healthy respect for work horses and carrot following donkeys ...theres a whole wide range of things that can be done without arab oil or anybody else oil or what ever outside sorce ...i know im a out of the box type guy but this oil thing is realy short in history ....there is more than one way to live in my opinion and yes brian horse and buggy is a fun ride ...im going to make one someday or find one either way ....

We used to have two old boys here in NM who lived in small burro drawn wagons. They would head north in the summer and south in the winter, they each had two burros, if I remember right they used one to pull the little mobile home and one would trail behind. Maybe it was two to pull I can't remember. They were a common sight here, even on the interstate, I-25. They would camp on the freeway verge and stake the burros out to graze and they would have a little smoke coming out of the chimneys. I think they may have both passed on, they were pretty old then and that was 15 years ago.

In Mexico and Central America it is not unusual to see horses, cattle and goats grazing the roadsides, staked out and free-range and folks actually harvesting the grass by hand that hasn't been grazed on.

Some sects....mostly Mennonites.

Out here in Lancaster PA, the Amish strickly use horses, no powered machinery, candles and lamps, hand pumped water..etc...

Out in Ohio we met German Baptist which are much like the Amish, but they also used modern stuff.

Yeah the Amish are a trip.
I was in Pa. 20 some years ago.
To see the area where they live is like going back in time 200 years except back then everything was in black and white, much harder life.

i have never met more intellegent kids in my whole life than amish kids ...the 15 yr old could watch the four other kids ...take care of the blacksmith shop....run the gringing mill ....sell stuff ....while the parents went to penn for a 2 week vacation ....at fifteen the kid tripled my knowledge on how to take care of things ...ive never been so impressed by a young man

Wow, cool. Surprising how maintenance heavy his show is tho. The thing about these local fellas here is that they had few needs, I guess burros eat about anything and their rig was very small and they traveled with the weather....
Different deal though....As a horse logger you would need the big fellas and enough of them I suppose. Plus all the harness, etc.

Actually I shouldn't even have an opinion, What I know about livestock of any kind you can put in a shot glass....

1. Cut the price of energy in half & keep it there,
2. Cut the price of health care in half, if not more than half!
People would have all kinds of money to spend, Company's would begin to grow again because people would have money to buy their products & won't be strangled with the high cost of health care benifets for a employee.

I like that plan. It would cut my monthly expenses by nearly $2k.

Better to rescind every law since prohibition was lifted and every Gov. office created since WW2. I don't expect any of these solutions ever to considered by the powers that be.
