to answer your question theres not much info on 1200 carb rebuild ...the set I did blind and hashed out with slabghost in chatting back and forth ....sorry I didn't have info you wanted
 
Nope thanks for any info i can get, called dealer and ask them about cleaning carbs. But my next question is this after they clean them am i gonna have a problem because my bike is a 87 interstate and i got the carbs from an 84 interstate or aspencade?
 
My cheat sheet says that the Keihn 32mm CV carb was used on 84 thru 87 model 1200's so you shouldn't have a problem.

GL1000 Carb IDs: 1975 - 755A, 1976 - 758A, 1977 - 764A, 1978 and 1979 - 769A (prior to 1-1-78) and 771A (emission control manufactured after 12-31-77)
GL1100 Carb IDs: VB48A and VB48C
GL1200 Carb IDs: VB53A, VB53B, VB53C and VB53D, as well as California VB55A, VB55B, VB55C and VB55D

These numbers are imprinted on the body above the bowl flange on the side towards the center of the engine. You probaly would have to remove the carbs to read them.

backlander, your quickly becoming our resident 1200 go to guy!
 
:smilie_happy: :smilie_happy: I made the 1200's my hobby, that keeps me off the street at night, so I'm constantly gathering information about them. Glad to share anything I've learned about them.

Pretty hard to have good fuel delivery with carbies that look like that! :doh:
 
Looks like a good bit of water contamination. Clean up everything with a 50/50 mix of kerosene and ATF with a old tooth brush. Be sure to remove and clean all the jets carefully. Remove any O rings if you plan to use carb cleaner on them. Inspect the jets very carefully that all holes are opened. Some have holes in the sides that can be very difficult to find when plugged and in that condition.
