I'd like to say hello! I recently acquired a new-to-me GL1000, with a spedo that shows 13,500 miles, that has taken its place in my "collection". I never intended to have a "collection" but that's what seems to be what's happening. Every bike has a story and my GL has been slowly revealing hers to me as I go over every square inch to see what's right and not. It's going to be a journey for sure. I've been riding all my life and that's getting to be quite a few years! Earlier this year I began making and selling motorcycle accessories as a side business and I've never had so much fun mixing my passion for mechanics, electronics and motorcycles. My web page is https://www.TheDigiSync.com. I'm not here to sell though. I'm here to learn and share what I know.
So far I'm in the tear down and rebuild mode of my ownership of the GL. The carbs are on the bench as I wait for a Heli-Coil kit to repair some stripped out bowl screw. It's sad, as there were three different screw sizes and threads used to try to paste the bowls on. Otherwise the carbs are really quite clean and decent. While I wait I pulled the valve covers and rocker arms and replaced the valve seals. Of course, while the timing belt covers were off I replaced the belts. So far I have a small box of wiring-by-others that I've removed. The only worthy aftermarket wiring I kept is the Dyna S ignition system.
So the fun begins!
