pic of inner spacer that gose on first ..kinda rough looking and knotch way bigger than pin bad it dosnt make a difference ...could be better done on the ends also and I cleaned the loose stuff on spacer ...
image.php

this is how the disk and base cover and iggy and thick gasket has to go on ....small spacer with slot install on cam shaft stem on already

image.php

pic of small spacer that gose on after base cover iggy and disk is installed
image.php

wow as I was going slow and looking hard I seen this ...disk had one finger bent ....so I backed up and took evertthing off ....sfter looking at everything it seemed that the plastic box everything came in was deform some and I think it got bent there ...my best opinion ..could have been something else but I doubt it

back on track cover installed ...moving on

ok the timing process involves hooking red wire to key switch on ...om hooch this is at relay hooch has ....and with curve wires grounded and coil plug disconnected ...cover off c5 iggy housing ...motor on T1 timing mark and key on ...move disk wheel clockwise till red light comes on and tighten down now ...seems all this is perfect design to lock it good ...spacers disk and all ...it is now timed ...turn key off plug in coils from iggy

okay guys the ride report ...c5 on 1200 hooch 1000ized ...first impression is hooch runs and sorta sounds like crotch rocket ...with very powerful sound of complete burn ...no gas smell or unburnt smell at all ....there's absolutely no pinging in hooch ...now for the bad part seems that right in the middle of the midrange hooch was lurching powerfully ...no spit and sputter ...it hit hard then off hit hard again and off ..consistent mow and powerful while doing it ...im thinking its starving for gas ...couldn't believe how crotch rocket like it runs like now ...don't read anything into this I slapped the carbs on and rode nothing else too late to do anything after ride ....I cant wait to get back to it ....

......bottom line right now the c5 iggy made hooch run like a bike that was made today not 35yrs ago period ...there's no way that I got everything perfect right off installation and carbs too and expect it to perfect ...I am very pleased so far ...I'm playing music tomorrow and wanted to ride hooch first ...cant wait til I'm back to dial it in carbs and all.

This was the worst post i've ever read.

I'm sitting in a hotel room with GLWrench with our fingers crossed, as if someone is about to tell us our baby is ugly :beg:

Not sure what the surging is, but i haven't experienced that before. Make sure your blue and brown "curve" leads are firmly grounded.
If they were loose, it could cause it to jump from curve to curve. Otherwise i blame carbs...lol

We hope you enjoy another ride soon. Have a great weekend!

:moped:

I've been with Joe through all of the Hooch transformation. I really think the mechanical fuel pump doesn't have enough flow for the modified 1200. This isn't exactly a new issue although the reaction at higher rpm with c5 is a bit different. I'm thinking on possible solutions.

It certainly looks like a great install Joe and I believe peace of mind for the future. If there is any money left over from my holiday I would love an 1100 setup. :good:

let me clairify ..i didn't go but about 5 miles ....i only went up to surge twice ...as i was testing for first time i didn't go there agsin and stayed where it was running great i mean real great ...i seen no reason on first run to try and surge around with up high .....plus where i live dosnt allow that anyway ...i was totally impressed with the perfect running of the motor ...the bike pulls like freight train ...i very impressed how it held its speed on hills ...absolutely no lugging what so ever ...stayed down where it ran super sweet on home and posted ...im very pleased and you sould be too ...this the best ignition ive ever work with on a oldwing ... its clear to me that this is best thing ive seen for oldwings since ive been involve with them...i cant wait for meet and greet ....such a great product ...lots to talk about

two things to add ..the plugs are ...ngk dpr8eix-g...hope that's right ...iridium plugs ...difinitly on the thrown together side is the plugs have no screw tops as the wires need ..so that's not right yet ....I will get some tops ...this is all me on this ,,the intent I think is to cut and put regular oldwing ends on but im going this way for now ...ive had enough of the ngk ends

Joe, i wasn't upset with you, just nervous! Same feeling i get when my daughter was in choir. You know she'll make you proud but still cross your fingers...lol.

Gap your plugs per the instructions. They are resistor type and that's good. Fix the "missing plug tips" and then ride it again. Have fun...be safe!

Good un-biased report Joe.

It seems there are a couple things need to be worked out with the kit like cleaner machining on the spacer and packaging to prevent damage to parts but these are minor issues.

As far as the running Joe says it runs very good even though spark is having to jump to the plug end as well as the gap.
Clearly there are some things on Hooch need to be cleaned up.
Add to this, it's running an aftermarket fuel pump which is untested whether it's providing enough fuel.

I know that we are all hopeful the c5 turns out to be another option for the old GW and motorcycles of all kind in particular. I like to make a suggestion on future reports with out sounding as as though I'm trying to rain on some ones parade. My suggestion is for Joe to Iron all of the bugs out of hooch for a more precise report.

From what I've read from the beginning of hooches inception is that hooch ran like crotch rocket with plenty of torque down below. This was prior to changing the Dyna S Iggy for the c5. What we didn't read was this new hick up existed prior to the new iggy install ,( lurching at higher R's) , nor we were told at what R's exactly this lurching occurs . I know that Joe has a great deal of time invested on this new c5 iggy system and we all want him to succeed ,still I am hopeful that we are all mature enough to have an open unbiased discussion with out anyone taking things out of context to mean something other than what the intent of this post was intended to say.
Hopefully Joe will be able to work all the kinks out with his next report, and report the causes. Be it carbs, fuel pump or the c5 itself.

Just a thought.

Thanks.

I completely agree!

Everyone should also be aware that Hooch is heavily modded.
It is:

1. A 1200 engine in a 1000 frame.
2. 1100 heads on it running 75-77 cams.
3. Carb rack (this run) are from a GL1000.

What we don't know is if the same carb rack was on this motor for the last ride report.
Joe needs to answer that question.

I suspect some things are not the same from the last run to this one.
For an apples to apples comparison, the ignition needs to be the ONLY thing changed.

Joe also needs to install the STOCK plug caps on the wires provided in the kit as explained in the instruction manual!
Paul is telling me an improper plug in to the plugs can produce false signals.

It seems to me Joe was careless and rushed the ride report. He should have sorted out the sloppy install beforehand.
