I went out and measured, my air filter is 2 1/2 inch tall and my adapter is 1/8 inch plate.
Oh and now I remember , I had to drill hole in bottom of glove compartment for air filter bolt to clear but not wingnut it's that close.
I had already forgot

thanks randy ... but im just a small part of why the success of single carb projects is moving to forfront ... just one of many oldwingers looking to beat the odds of time and bad gas that plagues the factory set ups .....boy today looks nice out hope to get a lot done maybe a video ....lots to rig yet before ride ... hooch is in spaghetti junction of wires and stuff to stuff back into order LOL

RIDE REPORT!!!!!

ok rig up nice throttle set up basically just like the other set with out tower ....

condition 50 degrees sun out kind of cool ... took hooch out the doghouse tough going through the rather wet ground to gravel drive ... sheeesh made it ... unlike stock oldwings that require clutch control hooch demands throttle control of highest degree ive ever had to use ... this along with I am sure some jetting issues makes for some be on your game or you might go down

when going up the hill in the gavel towards black top ....hooch was throwing gravel around even though i was trying to just ease up the hill wasn't bad ....

when I got to the black top ... gave it some gas .. well this turn into cracking all the bone I have to my shoulders sheesh LOL ... power is instant smooth and furious ... I think it dosnt get more powerful than that combo of things it seems the gas charge is rather good ... even though it don't seem to like idling anything from there is monster like ....

so I tried to take it easy to the hi way ... and did hooch did well but when I got to the stop sing at one country road took off nice rolling now then gave a little gas hooch broke traction sliped sideways several inches or so maybe 6 ... and I wasn't trying to do that just go up the hill ... seems power everywhere has gotten meaner for sure ...

now I am at the hi way ... a bit cautious to say the least ... as I wanted to get into a bit for report in a few gears ... well I did get into 3rd but not far into it ...on good gravel free road I got into it responsibly as this was all new ... sheesh power will make you loose analyzing things and just pay attention .... it went to 8000 grand easy as can be .. second the same ... third I got just barely into it and was way over 70mph ...and all this happen quick ... that was enough for me on first ride .... I turn back off the hi way and down the hill back to the house ....

thoughts ... its clear now that hooch is not a oldwing ... its is a race like motor with potential as its number 1 thing ....it is crucial that hooch gets dial in right ...

this is power guys big time ... now moving on to jetting .... :builder: :thanks:

couple pics oh hooch outside first time in months and just after ride

pic of how high the tower goes comes up on hooch

hooch is quite dirty after hibernating all winter in doghouse

went to fool with jetting and the enviable happen to me I ran out of gas LOL ... so I guess I am done for the day ... the ride was great ....

I always knew from the get go all the trouble I was having getting hooch to run right was all in the fact of its potential it had ... i can see now I am getting close

suppose oldwing genius joedrum is going to get another set of grab bars ....after a genius destruction of the first set ... let me state again ... I think this is great system ... I have learned a lot from them even in my failure to get it done right

1 the grab bars are thin and made of steel and I found out if there is a leak in the runner at all you can tell it ... as the temp of the runner will be lower than the ones that are not leaking ...

2 idle is where leaking runners will cause the most problems

when I had the system tight idle was good and the running was very good .. I wont say perfect cause I have yet to get things where jetting will improve things

4 so when I get to felling better I am going to back up and get to where I was before bad move on my part ...LOL ...

ok this time around....... I decided to leave the bar flanges full ....and deal with flange being big this way the gasket being 1/4 rubber will be able to lip over head print a lot for good seal .....the gaskets are made all custom as were flange holes by hammer chisel and file ... this resulted into custom fit with no movment at all ...bolts are like threaded through gasket and stay put ... this making for some no stress mounting ... the 1/4" gaskets was just barely enough to clear thermostat plumbing ....so as of now it looking great pics soon ...I am staying on this to make sure everything Is right and not break into pics and post as I go .... shouldn't be to long :builder:

ok ive got everything cut and done up ... it cold and rainy here so pics today but I am really pleased how its coming ... it nice and stout ... and if weather gets better might have it running tomorrow ... sheesh cant wait sorry about pics today but it is what it is I had other things to do .. getting a starter ready to ship out tomorrow ...for shovelking ... man the good weather has been non existent this yr .... :builder:

With the holes drilled in the flanges you can bolt the stock intake to the bottom side and mark your cutaway line :builder:

good idea for sure ....but I think after the last deal I will slowly go from here ... with cutting I am like the seal down overhang a lot .... but very good idea to get it marked .....

seems like I might get a good day in today :builder:

ok this is pretty much where I am at ... type4 plenum is barely clearing thermo housing ... gaskets are under bar flanges ... made from big truck mud flap take offs seemed to work great ... finally got the clamps I wanted to use ... aside from bracing off tower tower and carb for flex .. its pretty much set ... still have to pit hole in in intake gashets for head ports kept it solid till I was sure I like it all ... so fire up will be after that I hope today :builder:
