well i am deep imto the jetting now ...trying all kimds of combinatios jet, tubes and air bleeds ... i have really made progress on the primary ive seen it idle as low as 6-700rpm and maintain it while i was adjust it ....seems i have got it idling good at 1000 rpm ...and no gassy smell ....it also seems to rev good ... as of now i have 145 idle jet .....120 gas jet....220 air bleed im primary ....tube is stock it came with ....now the secondary is something else .....this carb is like the magnum series of the 32-32 ...22-22 carb ....and the transition to the secondary hasnt been good yet .. the increase in air flow over the smaller carb is more so in the secondary ...it wants to crack and pop in engaging secondary right now i am assuming it is way lean and getting way to much air ... i am for sure air flow is there to make good charge ... but the engagement bounce from primary to secondary is hard to adjust ... the few times the secondary has kicked in somewhat good the bounce has been hard ...the 32-32 carb is much smoother so far in my experience ....right now i am ... 65transition idle jet ...105 gas jet ...stock tube....and 220 air bleed in secondary ....thats pretty much max air bleed ...and i will try and bring gas jet up to it ... pretty much what i did on primary so far ....just looking at things it might be a huge bump in gas jet to get this to work good :builder: :headscratch:

ride report .....its seems the jetting is done ... and time to test for awhile ...i didnt ride long i didnt have to ... hooch was well warmed up like it had been sitting in stop and go traffic idling away better than ever before down around 900 and less if it sits long enough ... but was snapping right off throttle with any twisting ....so went out the drive and up gravel hill road and let hooch power up it idling did it well ...some big rocks have been dumped in road to try and keep it LOL...i was in second at the end of the gravel leaned it on the pave hill to the left .. and with not much throttle it went up the hill witch quite steep like a dart ....sheesh back oof and created the hill rather slow in 3rd puttered downhill ... sounded so good like perfect back off .... once down to bottom and left again is the paved double hump stretch hooch flat out made that way to scary wit no throttle it seemed like i was more busy backing off ....

anyway when i got to the hi-way the story was told ... it was flat out super power ansd either seamless transition to secondary or i never got there ... it dont matter i got to 8000 rpm ...after that display of power when i shifted to 2nd i went easy engagement on clutch and went again ..sheeeh ...what power ...in 3rd now ijust went to fifth and cruised ... till i got to the turn went wen down the steep hill again no bad exhaust tone ... when i got to the bottom and turned it came right up and took off ... everything seems to working perfectly ....

when i got home i did the driveway test it purred up the dive better than it ever has ....amazing power and no bad spots anyway yet to report ... :yahoo:

pics of new joedrum carb adjuster ....
image.php

okay after getting started today i made some real good moves ... it pretty much discounted all what i said above but who cares ... the truth was i was not getting to the secondary before some popping and stuff would start ... but ran well under this level ....so i could have jetted up... to get more gas to primary .. but thought if i did it would hurt the secondary big time ...so i wanted to slow down the air in the primary barrel at the higher zone of its operation ....when this is cut back it means the secondary gets it ... so this new mod is a air flow adjuster between the barrels ... the plumbing piece i found just pushed right in .... it is in the primary barrel the choke was removed and so will the secondary choke too ...just havnt done it yet ... the piece is a non moving part and i see no problem at all ....

now for the second ride did some hi way miles ... hooches roll on power is there with just about anything id say ...no matter what where or anything ...there is never a bad exhaust tone on de acceleration or on with the power ... it never loads up and is always just waiting for you to give it gas ... it is apparent that the throttle action has to be totally slick and all predicable ... any un smoothness is turned into violent throttle bursts ....there simply is no discount at all ...

it is time for the dyno is all i got to say .....the added air to the secondary made it perform perfect what a fantastic mod this is for this carb and this hooched out 1200 .... need to make video of the sound while riding with no air noise ... you guys will be picking jaws off the floor i amazement

im rather sure i am in the 99% bracket and above ... the next video got to be a ride with good sound pic up :yahoo: :ahem:

Great Joe. Whatever it takes!

Looking at what that plumbing piece is doing and what effect it has........
It must be restricting air flow to draw in more gas from somewhere, be it from the primary or from the secondary.
That to me suggests the primary jetting is too lean without it.

Anyway, if your happy then run with it. We are not there to experience what you can first hand.

Did you put the chokes back in the runners or are you just running it straight up ??

srtait up  ... i see no reason to have them at all ...you could say i replace outlet chokes to even a more pinpointed choke betweeen the barrels of the carb ...

dan unless something shows up as a discount i aint making any more moves ...as i said it ready for dyno ....i am not saying this would work on there build ... i am running big air bleeds ... primary is jetted idle 45 ..gas 120....air bleed 220 ...secondary is 65 idle ...105 gas ... 220 air bleed ....there is no gassey smell or vapor coming off carb after off ... i am sure adding jetting would not do what the air flow adjuster did ...it was a fork in the road and i choose the air road not the gas road ... i am positive it was the best move and the best mpg move also ... if there going to be any mpg on a bike like hooch ... it seems obvious i an using it all ... and as i always thought once dial in moisture effects really start diminishing :thanks: :ahem:

It's great it's running like you want Joe but I still would like to understand why the pvc piece helped so much.
I know it's been a long road and you want to ride so get so you can and prove it out.
We can chat here with our ideas what's going on.

yep this c5 timed and advance multi spark iggy has been matched to weber fuel 2 stage to the level of c5 ... and the entire muscle program is completed for hooch this project ended up far from my first vision of it ... and the two mention deals ... far exceeded expectation of what i could build ...it amazing how road can turn but be strait on target the whole time .... this bike need to be dyno .. to test it safely of what it has .... sheesh what a bike ... :ahem:

Seems to me the PVC piece acts like a velocity stack for the secondary. Speeding the flow in one barrel is a novel approach for sure but seems to have gotten great results.

its actually in the primary where the air is manipulated .... it seems to have brought in balance in the down low idle and just off idle .. it can thump along and come out of it snappy like ....it is kind of like a high rise choke with expansion chamber like fat place then narrows down through carbs air choke of 24....thats what its like ....

Hmm velocity stack for the secondary.......
Ok so it would appear then if that's the case...... the smallish PVC piece is causing a restriction in the primary bore which would in effect cause more air to be pulled through the secondary bore.
Pulling more air though the secondary bore would cause gas to be pulled in through it's jetting.

Basically I see the PVC piece as causing a restriction which would make more gas to be drawn in.
Joe has thought for awhile the 32/32 with it's 22/22 chokes was too small for Hooch.
Could it be then that running the 32/34 with it's 24/25 chokes is better suited, but not just that, running soley on the 32 primary is simply too small that it needs the 'extra' air/fuel from the 34 barrel with it's larger choke?

However it works it does seem to work well. If someone had done this 50 years ago carbs might have been designed this way.

heres a small video of first start after tow days of rain ... and a nice blow over from the wind ...sheesh ...when video was started it conldn run 5 minutes yet it s started right up and setted into idling on its own in less than aminute i watche a minute and went inside and got video camera and started it was rather cold and some what humid ... hooch would have never settled down like this before ...huge change in character from before....so i did do much here here it was cold and not warmed enough for me to push the throttle much
