boy im tired today and the day is nice meaning i have to do yard work its suppose to rain and get colder tomarrow...so the bolt extraction well be on hold today so i can work in yard stuff

yep ive been realy disgusted how things went ...just didnt go well ...i had a drill bit break off after i drill through the bolt and it snaped when it hit the bottom of the hole ...and ive never have been able to gain ground at all since....so something else will get done

Bummer. I wish I knew what the next step was. The one you're fighting with is tough to get at. If you could get enough of it, stick a bolt in your drilled hole and weld it. The heat could be your friend. I'm guessing there isn't room for that.

Damn, when the bit snaps and not enough to grab it that's when I cry.

Which bolt is it?
I have a picture of the case inside opposite both of them on an 1100.
My thought is to drill out the first part of the hole larger than the threads, slowly until you can grab the drill bit or it might fall out.
Worse comes to worst then keep drilling to tap it larger threads.
Don't know how large a bolt can go thru the starter mount tab, check that.
The case threads are on a raised bit of casting. Soft touch for sure.
The lower bolt I think goes thru to the oil sump by the way.

Description: This is the internal side of the forward (lower) starter bolt on a GL1100, I believe all years 1100 are the same.
Pictured here the engine case half is upside down.

Sorry, stupid me I took the pic with the case upside down.
Anyway, the other bolt goes into lots of case meat.

that sinces it im done working on that part...theres quite thblock on the otherside to do something with ...to dangerous to to risk the motor over this bolt....thanks dan ....i already broke a bigger bit too

Well if you run into trouble I have an 84 under wraps (cheap). Would be a shame if you have to change because of a broken manifold stud tho.
