most stuff ready to for motor drop ...dang those thermostat bolts are rough sometimes even with the heat sheild gone like i have it ....could have drop it but was to tired today and by myself....

its out ...what a feeling ...the clutch is the pits on the 1000s motors to take cable off ...learn something new everyday the 75-77 1000 motors are harder to take out than 78-79 ...the kick starter stuff sticks out further ...but it wasnt to bad ......im glad its out...some pics

wow big 1200 going in soon ...got the whole motor out carbs and all ...things went good no problems at all realy :heat:

lots of cleaning up to do on the frame and also going through the wiring ...witch is a problem the 77 already had ...im also going to look into all the options i might have in the clutch set up....looks like i can mod the starter hookup from the removable frame piece ..if i cant get the broken bit out i cant dig in there any more .... :builder:

things will get interesting soon with some of the ideas i got ...im hoping will work on this build...

pics of the cleaning ....as my shop is dirt floor ...im not wanting to drips and drain off the bike and on the ground ..so i use a paint brusch a bigger one like 4" plus ....use some of my mystery cleaner i have ...called heinze 57..fire starter ...and basicly keep from driping anything by never putting on enough at one time to make a drip ...as close as you can get to dry brusching and still be wet

obviously ive turned stupid and cant post a pic

well the motor is in 77 ...the 1200 was hitting the frame right at the top of the staor huseing and no way was going to go ...so i put my engineering hat on took all the measurents i needed and cut the stator housing and frame ....you cant even tell i was in there realy ...its quite the job and i left just enougromm for paint ....im the other side of this project is the couputer and its giving me fits right now and i cant post any pics ...but will when the computer doc cures my virus

I think you're the first to try grinding the stator housing. I wish I would have tried that first. Room for paint? I thought you were tighter than that. Mines moving slowly.

what i did eric is ...i had the motor basicly bolted to the fixed frame side ...then jacked it up to where it was hitting...then ran a sawall right through the seam ...it made a pefect guild for blade .....it took 2 slices at it to get enough room....this worked realy well and i didnt have back up ..i kept going forward ...i realy took no measurements i was being sarcastic me when i posted that ....but i was very please how well it came out the blade i used was carbide impregnated ...kinda like it was filed ..

pics finaly figure it out
image.php

this shows that it hits the frame and removable frame piece wont go
image.php

had this side of motor with bolt in frame at back ...and jacked up to where it was hitting
image.php

this shows nothing im quite impressed this is after cutting and motor all in place with bolts

yep its splitting my head too ...but i have made a possitive step today on the 77 ...it came to me while talking to slab and looking at his sidebar ...that the name of the 77 will be dragonwing...and it will have some fire breathing power :music:
