now that i have plenty of seat time to put in to heal the back im going to work on the 1000 carb rack for the mongreul.....

this carb rack looks like its never been touched ....im going to take pics some how and post them

hopefuly this project comes out fine ....i think i can handle it ...and the carbs will get done to :smilie_happy: :smilie_happy:

pics  :laptop: :Doh2: :rtfm:

yah gerry i didnt beleave it when i type it :whistling: :hihihi: ...anyway i started working on my i guess 77 carb rack .....it anit good so far two of the four vacume pistons are broke all the way around the upper and lower piston seam..... this was hard to take .....how dose this happen .... :headscratch:

anyway i took the vacume piston out of the 78 rack i have and it fits it seems.....the only thing that had to be changed was the piston needles they were different anybody got any comment on this .....im hoping this will work as i would like to use these carbs

i guess now i have to put this together the best i can and cleaned to see if vacume pistons will work before i can spend money on rebuild kits

what could be the cause of the broken pistons    :hihihi:

well i gambled on the carb rack ...iwas told that it had sey outside for a decade and some ....and i was hoping the carbs were not messed with .....i only paid 87.00 dollars for the rack and shipping from california.....it was obvious that the carbs had been messed with as loose as all the skrews were ....anyway im hoping the vacume slides from the 79 rack will work if not im going to do my own carb setup ....but im going to go though the rest of the carb rack ....its just hard for me to figure that th vacume slides broke like they did .....could they have been stuck so bad that the taking the vacume covers off did this ...isee no surrounding marks on the carb bodies.......

im hoping that after that happen or whatever ,that this is as far as they went with the carbs maybe everything else will work out .....this remains to be seen ....getting the jets and all out is going to be the big deal to get through.....if i can get this done im going to boil and steam them soon wish me luck

Slides may have just been a defective casting. There might have been a recall issued for them. Good luck finding the needed parts to fix that rack.

well the frame fits but it is tight in the upper sator cover...i cant even see the clearence so im going to grind a weld down some to get enough room for paint :smilie_happy:  its also tight at the oil dip stick that honda took 9 yrs to put in....just some cold hammer forgeing on the frame :builder:

this is a huge step forward on this project .....

Wanted to swap an 86 engine also, but was told that engine block would'nt fit on my 82 frame.since it is wider.after some time and to many unsolved questions I desisted. My bike sleeps outdoor with cover since bought in 2001.I guess this was around 2 or 3 years ago.And I also posted question on sanders (I think).Didn't want to go thru an ordeal since bike sleept on a parking lot of an aparment complex.

they go right in the mounting for the motor ...the1200 is about 1/4 " wider on each side where the heads mount ....the stroke is longer on the 1200 block....there are other issues to though

well im about to go bonkers over the welder im using .....im about to loose all the wire in the spool....ive got most of the welding done on the frame but i might just forget about the swingarm mod if i cant get this thing to feed right.....just venting

ive never would have thought that id get so hung up on this frame icant wait to get this done !!!!!!!!

i have to go work on someone elses gl 1100 with carb problems i sure hope that gose well....

the middle of any project is so fustrating to get though wish me luck im starting to need it :sensored: :builder: :sensored: :help: :Awe: :beg:

:hi: BEST OF LUCK,got me glued to your awesome project. :eek:k:

its been a long time since ive made any proggress on the 1200 project.....but yesterday i took the 1200 heads off....the 76 heads are the ones im going to use ...

there some talk about the cams hitting 1200 ...so ive come with a way of safely figuring out if there going to hit and if they dont hit a way of measuring the clearence ....and if they do hit a way of measuring how much i need to cut out the pistons deeper...

this will also give me an ideal of what clearences i have in the 1100 with 75 cams....

im hoping to take pics of all this to go with my posts

the 1200 block looks great around the pistons and cylinders ....iwas pleased how well it look

Just an idea to check valve clearance. If you mount the head with the bolts very loose about 1/4" from seating then use a bungee cord to hold the head seated. You can then turn the cam buy hand and if the valve contacts the piston it would simply push the head out. If it doesn't contact the piston you can then add a layer of construction paper on the piston. Check again and repeat until it does touch. Then you'll know how much clearance you have. BTW you know better than I at what position the piston needs to be to do this check.

thats good vince thats pretty much what im going to do .....not exactly but the head monted loose and all so that you can see movement in the head if the vavle hits the piston....and if it dont hit you can use the adjusters to see what kind of clearence you have in a easy way to measure .....

yea vince im impressd :good: :eek:k: :rocks: :ahem:

In Harley builds that have read they also use clay on pistons to see cleareance to valves.

yea most do it that way but its a mess and hard to measure accurate for me .....im not knocking it ..the clay method but with all that clay in there its hard to feel if your hitting the piston because of the clay....anyway i do it differently
