GOTCHA  .You got to do what got to do.Prioritys first......Take care of family first :good: :good: :good:

okay what a day .....i did test fit the 1000 heads on the 1200 today after cleaning the pistons and stuff on it and a 1100 too....when i timed the 1200 to the t 1 mark the vaves were hitting .....and looking at everything carefuly on the 1200 and 1100 there just seemed no reason that the 1200 was hitting....  :nea:

so i test fitted the 1000 head on the 1100 and timed it to T1 mark on crank ....valves didnt hit....how could that be.....  :hihihi:

so then i realy started looking at stuff and discovered that the timing marks on the crank are different....on the 1100 the timing mark is on the T the marks are either side of the T then there is 1 with no marks on either side by it and then theres the F with marks on either side.....the 1200 has marks on either side of the T the 1 and the F :headscratch:

so then i tesed the 1000 head on the 1200 again except this time i lined it up on the 1 and marks there on the 1200 motor ....and the valves didnt hit :headscratch: so im thinking that this is where the 76 head and cams need to be timed at .....im going to repeat everything tomarrow to make sure that the results repeats itself it was getting dark...... :heat:

so im thinking honda change the marks and you know that extra stroke has something to do with this .....so nobody take me serious yet as im in mid stream on this but its where im at now .......

when it come to parts mixing like this you never know where it can lead you ...you have to be so throughal on figuring things out.....its time to :lazy: on it

It's been awhile since I did Susies 1200 but I seem to remember more marks than the 1100 has.
I timed hers on the "T" mark and that's the way it was before I took the belts off.

The alignment marks in the illustration appear to be a half tooth off. Is this the correct placement after the belt tensioners are set?

It is the angle of the shot. The illustration is meant to just show the marks on the pulley and the back cover. They should be lined up directly when the belts are on correctly.

it seems i was being fooled some and the 1200 is not hitting on the T mark either so im happy that it was one thooth off and not hitting ....that dose represent clearence im not sure how much .....but im thinking its got as much as the 1100 dose ....at this point it easier to use some clay to see how much clearence i have i have to get some ......might be a day or two ....

i did a valvae check today on the 1200 with flour dough instead of clay ....im thinking it went okay ...it all stuck in the head instesd of piston ....but i saw no signs of being to close ...and im confident that its okay and 1100 too ....ididnt even check the 1100 it seemed redundit....

so im on the the move now with the the 1200 project ...i will do a head job on the heads and stuff now ...i will have to come up with head gaskits ...icant beleave how much they want for them ...

im waiting on early heads and cams to come in to have a choice between the two sets ...iwant to use the other set for a 1980 1100 motor i have

so this is a huge step ...others on another forum are having problems with clearence and valve hitting on the 1200 mod ...i just dont see it and cant explain or understand what going on ....even if the heads were milled it dosent look to me that would be the total cause of there problems so im going to just pay attension to my own work

okay one more time...okay ..i did this totaly by myself im the only one here ...this is good news im getting close to having a real thread.....with pics

well the parts list is getting bigger ....bought a parts bike .....80 1100 standard .....flase tank good ,front forks look preetty good for parts bike , some kind of after market exhast in good condition , haed lightlight good condition standard , complete wiring harness , frame , swingarm and final drive , wheels , and complete motor and carbs and it looks promising an running no visable signs of oil leaks ...

so im not finding the parts i want but im finding some good parts ....it looks like between the two parts bikes i got ....iwil have another 1100 standard put together ...... :cool!:  i always wanted one of the 80-81 1100 motors with there super low gearing and now i have one ....

boy im sure getting tore up over at the saunders forum abou the 1200 switch .....man some are just so opinuated and they probably have never done anything to get there.....
Probably thats were I got my info when I wanted to swap an 86 gl1200 on my 82 was willing to swap carbs and wiring and whatever necessary to make it work.I appreciated all the responses some were positive but many (can't do).I dessited after one of the last emails said you can do it if your good with a torch welder to reform the frame (just to fit the engine in the frame).Remember Joe we had this conversation before about a wider longer stroke 1200 vs 1100.I still appreciate their answers to my Delusions at that time  but if I had my own garage to work I would have probably tryied to tackle the odds.Maybe they did me a big favor.IF i were you I would trust myself since your doing a heck of alot of mods that many wouldn't even think of.Measure and double check everything(i know you do).I have faith that you can pull it through.Best of luck :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

scratch the 82 1100 wing like you have is a nice package .....i have one and im not touching it with any mods.....yes you can boost the power with eraly 1000 heads and cams but you need eraly 1000 carbs to use the dyna ignition and coils for the 1000 plus open the exhast as the stock is to restrictive and increase air to the carbs and adjust timing to match the free flow of everything and it will become much faster ..... but in no way would i do that to your bike the 82 1100 is a well setup bike that has half a foot in get up and go and a haft a foot in taller gearing for hiway touring just a great combo bike and the carbs are smooth and very user friendly ....if your having any problems with the way it running id try to fix what might be wrong with the stock setup first....me im out there with the mongruel already and this 1200 motor thing was just a spur of the moment type thing and when its done its going to be gearede alot like an 82 1100 just a little taller in 5th and a little lower in 1st gear and of corse i think im going to get about 110 hp + out of it maybe a lot more idont know ...but my daugters croch rocket is in for a surprise i bet down the straitaway .....irealy dont know but thats haft the fun ....the reality is that as honda increased the sizes of the wings the carbs and cams got milder and my build is going to have the bigger carbs and hottist cams in the biggest motor that they will fit in and with all the adjustability of the 1000 ignition thats in the 1000 head with dyna ignition upgrade in that ....the 1200 has 96 hp in the honda setup ....im thinking 10 to 20 % increase .....wow that would be cool ....then i may put it all back in full dress and go out and go out rocket hunting :smilie_happy:
That is so cool Joe.wish i could see there faces :smilie_happy: nothing like a sleeper.WTF that wasnt a goldwing was it :Awe: yap that was JOE :smilie_happy: as for my old girl she is great.was trying to fine a reason to get a harley.but she never lets me down.and now insted of geting a harley im going to pimp her out, chrome rims, ape hangers and will so much i whant to do.you know every now and then i get a dirty look from the hardcore harley guys.(especially when thay think im on one and thay cant catch me in the twistes tell we get to a light :head bang: ,if looks could kill)but most of them tell me that thay had an old goldwing befor thay got their harleys and some wish that thay still had them.
One of a kind Wing.UNIQUE....It's there anything else to say. :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
