i have a totaly new option now that im considering ....i just got a 1200 motor home and made a deal on a good working carb rack for the 1200 .....so im considering a real budget mod that i can handle right now ....going to install 75 1000 cams in the 1200 motor...modify an ignition housing to attach the 1000 ignition to the 1200 head and on the other mod an extension fuel pump gear cover ......or maybe attach the fuel pump to the 1200 head that would nice if i could work that out ....

this is all looking good to me as i have all the parts to do this and wouldnt have take the heads off and upset a good runnig motor ......this is all just in the thinking mode .....but this kinda follows what i did to the 1100s i have .....and so far i cant complain about how good that worked....i havnt done any serious looking but im going to soon its cold here ....real cold ... :headscratch:

yes it looks like the mod to the 1200 heads with 1000 ignition and fuel pump is easy ....im not sure when i can mod the adapter peices and get the proper skrews but i cant wait to get this done ....i want to get the mongruel back on the road.....i wish i would have thought of this a long time ago .....sometimes it take a long time to see something .....like in this case it took me about 6 months or more...... :headscratch: :whistling:  :hihihi:

now that the 83 1100 is in the unfunded zone .....im going to turn my attension to the 1200 project ....today im going to try and instaal the 75 1000 cams in the 1200 motor in the 1200 heads as a first step to see if the clearence is there for this to work ....if it dose then i can move on to grafting the fuel pump and ignition from the 1000 to the 1200 heads .....im real hopeful this going to work out ....i will post later when i find something out ....its raining here and a perfect time for me to do this ....this is a little far fetched but i dont think the mod is that hard we will see......

today i hooked the 1200 motor up to the chain hoist ...pulled it up ....cleaned it up .....that was a job and its not totaly done yet but good enough to start on the heads .....i got one 75 1000 cam in but did not time it yet i stop there it was getting late .....but it went in nicely and i dont see any road blocks yet .....so coming along fine so far......

I love all the progress! Careful with that elbow. It'll be interesting to see how you set up the fuel pump and ignition. I do hope you get pictures. :smilie_happy:

well the 75 cams fit the 1200 head and dont hit the pistons when timed ...so thats a huge step forward on to the next step

YES, that is a huge step forward.

How close are you to starting it?

pretty long way id say but you never know ....this motor is out and was road dirty a good sign id say .....im going to make a mortor bench and install it and run it first ....i also think the sator bad ....yes a bench with water supply and gas and electrical hook ups .....that will take a little time .....as i was working today i could see how nice the doghouse would make a goldwing restoration palace...room for many wing projects ....nice thought ...no rent ...not far from home ....who knows ...i could think of worst things to do .....and i like winging....

so dan with elbow hurt andthe weather been bad is why ive been able to do some on the wings .....weather starting to break to the good and i will have to get back at the doghouse ....but i might have a few days before my elbow will let me work....after that timewill be shorten some .....lots to do here ....got to get the doghouse done no.1 thing to do........

well everyting is done and zip up ....now that everything is back together there will be one more final cleaning and then its on to the adaoter plates for ignition and fuel pump .....i almost made a big mistake the 75 cams i was using had a shorter fuel pump nose than later yrs ....after looking at it this was a bad move if you want to use adapter plate to fit the fuelp pump ......so i switched it out withe 76 1000 cam with its a least a fat 1/8" longer fuel pump nose...this pretty much comfirs it will work as least as good as the 75 cam did in the stock head..... :music: proably by the end ofthe ay iwill know for sure if adapter plates have any hidden road blocks i havnt seen yet .......

it seems the fuel pump is no problem ....but the igniton adapter plate is going to be a challenge ....the bolt holes almost piggy back each other ...plus there is a lip on the ignition housing that is inline with the 1200 heads bolt holes .....this could be ground off .....and then the igniton could be turned top for bottom and this would put the ignition holes on the other side of of center line but upside down ....the ignition plate that the dyna is on could be rotated 180 degrees i think as i look at it now to make that right .....with the ignition housing upside down the slot for the wires is on top and would have to be sealed up somehow to prevent water or anything else from getting in ....and another slot for wires 180 degrees on the other side....so thats where im at right now .....

so idont know yet what im going to do ...more thought is required there are other options to think about or to discover ....im not down on anything its going to get done .....its great looking at the fuel pump coming out of the 1200 head like it was ment to .....if anyone has understands my blab and got any ideals please do....im open to it

im going to have to get a camera going this is getting good and it needs pics ....the things that are going on and the motor work station is pretty neat considering im working in the mud down below..... :smilie_happy: :whistling:

yes dan the nose is the only difference....

Sealing the wiring will be the easiest part with some black rtv. You could try rotating the ignition housing full circle to see if there is an alternate mount position available. Then the ignition plate inside would need to be remounted to compensate or the pickups possibly repositioned.

yeah 180 degrees is where you get different mounting that would work ..and the ignition plate moves easly too ...to the right possition ...its proably the only thing to do ...for it to work ....tomarrow i will look again maybe somthing else will come to light .....

its a rainy day so im working on the 1200 ....its getting down to the point of being undoable unless i realy go after the 1200 head im realy bumd about it ....the 1200 head casting will not let the 1000 advancer fit all the way down seated in the the cam knotch ....i didnt see that coming and it was the last thing i checked ...so im either going to have to go after the 1200 head casting and cam carrier casting to get enough room for it to slide another 1/16" .....this sucks big time so i dont know what im going to do yet .....

:read:

Dang, Joe...sounds like what you really need is a well equipped machine shop. Then you would have no problem fabricating anything you need to get this beast working....

Hope it all works out, tho...this is an interesting project.
