New guy here, got a '80 standard with a Vetter 3, recently installed lowers, had her for about 12 years. Found her in a heated walk out basement with just over 5k. Ist summer towed her all over the west ( 10000 miles ) in a horse trailer hooked up to a converted Ford E250 extended. Went with my then 13 year son for about 2 months. It was a "bonding trip" after we lost his mother and sister in a winter car wreck. Anyway, we used the wing as our site transportation. Put over 3500 miles just on the bike. Saw so much country and riding the wing together, in places like "the road to the sun" in Glacier was f*****g incredible. Couldn't think of a better way to share the experience, a better way to "bond" a partnership for the years to come. He's now working in Manhatten designing big time web sites and I'm still out on the farm, a self employed woodworker .... crushed pretty good by the economy ..... but still got my wing. Actually a little sorry that I had an affair with 96 Royal Star with loud pipes for about 5 years and kinda let the wing be 2nd fiddle. The Star ended up paying for some bills and I have been fully focused on the wing, won't let her go. Over the years I have done a variety of custom work on her especially the paint. Silver marbelized tribal flames on a black base overshot with lilac pearl, accented with with three colors of stripping, mid blue, deep purple and fire red. I will ultimately get some pics up. Think most will like her .......NOW, for the attitude. I found this site while trying to get some tech info over at the NGW site of which I have been a member for a while .... I do all my own wrenching .... so I find something that looks like I would really like to know more about .... cleaning out the oil pump screen. A post over in NGW linked me to CGW where you can linked into the Honda manual for the Process. Yeah, great, try to link in and hey this area is restricted can't get in cause I'm a newbie, gotta pay my dues by putting up at least 5 posts! What's up with that or maybe its just restricted anyway? I haven't even looked any further into this site, which, I have no doubt, ultimately will be another great source of knowledge, but first I had to vent. Maybe I'm just suffering from techno stupidity and I'm wrong, please tell me I'm wrong, but in the mean time I'm going to look elsewhere for the info on cleaning out that screen, which is probably no more than opening up the side cover pulling an attachment bolt and there you have it, but I kinda like to prepare myself so I don't pull the mystery pin that will make the engine implode. Enough of this, look forward to accessing CGW and participating in the family of wingers ............ Crowe

..... and I want to check the screen because its there to do a job, my job would be to check it just in case??!!

LOL, Welcome from SouthWestern Ontario.

Well tried to link a image of the 2 pages you needed. Didn't seem to want to work for me today.
Looks like something I should probably do also. Added to the little todo list .

I had the same complaint when I first joined. I just wanted access to, what I found later, to be the best technical info on the net. I hung in there, did my five posts, got access to the info, and found out that there was even more info to be had by reading and participating in the forums. I've been a member for 1 1/2 months and have over 150 posts, got my bike running great, fixed my radio with info on the forum that you would NEVER find in the service manuals, and look forward to reading the forum every morning. I was always a lurker before, never participated before joining CGW. Most places ask you not to post, ask questions, or anything else until you have searched the site. This site encourages you to post, ask questions and the members get right back with an answer. I tell you like I was told, your 5 posts can be as simple as saying high to new members etc, you have 2 already, 3 to go, then you're in. You won't be sorry.

Welcome from Maryland, Crowe!

Welcome to the CGW Forums, Crowe!!! :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
There are certain forums here that ARE restricted to new members. We encourage folks to join in every chance they get, as it helps all of us in the end. A 5 post minimum isn't that bad...some folks do that on their first visit. :good:
I certainly hope you stick around...lots of great info here, and it sounds like you have a lot to offer us also. Sure would like to see some pics of your ride...it sounds sweet!

Welcome Crowesnest.....
Glad to have you with us....sounds like a great trip you took with your son. Sounds like a nice looking bike as well...now quit cheating on her! ;^)

Funny about the posts...I belong to one group...a yahoo group and one of the best on the net for another motorcycle....where they tell you if you only come there for info once or twice you aren't welcome.....imagine the attitudes that get going from that...including one I had that kept me all bound up for a while. The good news? When a guy got in a pinch because of an accident that destroyed his bike and nearly got him, that group jumped in and sent him over a thousand bucks through Paypal and someone coughed up another rebuilder bike to get him started again. My attitude took off like a scared rabbit.....
C'mon in, have a cuppa and take a deep breath, you are home....

Thank you all for the welcome and not swinging back about the attitude, which I do apologize for and can understand the reasoning behind it. I fully expect that over the months to come I will become a active and useful contributor to the Forum as I have over at NGW. Access to these forums and the knowledge found in their memberships is utterly invaluable to any rider who has an active interest in their ride and and its health, this is especially true if you are one that doesn't mind, scratch that, enjoys getting dirty keeping their ride running its best, looking its best and being a safe source of enjoyment and transportation, not to mention the mental benefits we get from the open road on two wheels. Did find the info I was looking for last night at another site, will still look for more back up info prior to putting her up on her lift, thank god for lifts .... and work stools on castors ..... to open up the access to the oil screen to check on its health. From many posts, it seems that, more often than not its clean and not an issue being a reason why its not addressed very often. I'm looking at it as if it can be checked, I'd rather spend the time to confirm its health, knowing later down the road it isn't the source of some potential problem. Does look like accessing the screen might actually involve a bit "tear down" so probably should be saved for one of those rainy days that keeps me off the road. Gotta work on this posting pics thing, really would like to show her off to the family ..... Later .... Crowe

Welcome crowesnest3.

I'd love to see pics of her, sounds like a beautiful color scheme!

You already have your own personal gallery active.
Here's a good How-To using the gallery.

You can also attach (upload) images to a post but we prefer everyone use the gallery so we can refer back to them in the future.

If you need any help just give a shout.

Welcome to the family Crowesnest, and yes, ENJOY the mental freedom of the riide. The best way on earth to escape reality.

No your not stupid!

Just to add to what the others already said,
We've worked VERY hard to build the gallery tech references.
By looking at the logs I found that there were many people accessing ONLY those specs with 0 posts.
I found this to be very unfair to the other members who work hard to contribute to the forums with their own references and experiences just to give those references away so I put in the 5 post minimum to access certain parts of the forum.
It's a simple matter of we must give to receive here.
I think that's fair, 5 posts is easy to get.

Hope no hard feelings.

btw, images of all references and member photo's here are set to display on other sites.
Do let me know if this is not the case.

First off, Welcome Sir.... You and everyone here has a right to get pissed off about something once in a while and do you want to know why??? Because we all know about it, that's why...We have ALL been down some rough ass roads...I know you carry a heavy Heart, you have my complete and total respect for taking good care of your son during such a hard time, I can't imagine what you must feel when you witness another guy with his full family...I am so very sorry this has happened to you Sir as I have two daughters and a wonderful wife and if they were taken from me I would probably lose my freakin mind.... I remember seeing your name a few times before..On other sites...I have been here for a short time and I like it...it's the funniest site I have ever been on and I have learned some great stuff here too, other sites are too serious for me..God help you if your wrong on something,,geez whiz...Sooooo post some stuff man show us some photo's of that bike...ooKKKKKK ...Welcome again..Oh, I'm also a self employed woodworker [ Commerical Carpenter for years]
