So I’m still restoring my 1983 1100 aspencade. Found a replacement engine , prepped and painted it . Then installed in freshly painted frame. The rear rubber boot was shot so found this at autozone ($20) and after a little trimming, she fit like a glove.

Everything is so expensive!!
If I added up all the $$$ I’ve spent over the years rebuilding these old bikes I would probably get sick but..... I enjoy the hobby!
Rebuilding brake calipers and kits run around $30 per caliper.! Absolutely ridiculous prices for a few pieces of rubber :(

Hear you on this issue. My '85 Limited Edition over the past 6 years has cost me a new GW, kept track of what I have spent, especially during C-19. An engine rebuild and complete paint job during C-19. Still working on it. Might have it in good nick in a few years.

As you mention, it's the doing and seeing the fruits of your labours. If I didn't have something to do I'd be some 100 lbs heavier - the fridge would be my friend.

I have removed the 50 year old rubber brake lines and replacing with braided stainless.
On this 83 the front calipers are different sizes but I still want to run each on their own line to one master cylinder on handlebars. Will this work?

So I’ve transplanted a good engine but it’s off of an interstate. The bike I’m rebuilding is an aspencade. I would like to keep the aspencades digital speedo setup , which also has an elaborate digital gear change screen. Here’s the issue, the wiring on the transplanted engine is only a single wire which I’m assuming is just a neutral switch wire.
I still have the original aspencade engine which has 6 wires coming from transmission which then connects to the gear screen. Any chance I can remove the 6 wires and transplant that to the interstate engine?

No, 2 different setups entirely.
The single wire has a neutral switch in the side of the block, the gear position switch is in the front. Maybe the gear selector cam and front cover could be moved over? I’m not sure.

Geesh !! After months of building.... I finally reached the point of starting her up today! Mind you ... I went into this blindly as the engine that was purchased had already been removed from a different bike. I might be reacting too soon but tremendous amounts of smoke is coming out both exhausts. It’s not coolant smelling but probably oil. The exhaust came off a different bike and was very oily inside ... so I’m hoping it’s just the exhaust . Anyhow, I will try to take it out for a ride tomorrow . I’m sure to get some looks if this smoke doesn’t clear up.
I did check the following:
Oil level is fine
Spark plugs are good
Will keep you updated!
Oh... I installed a single carb and she started right up.

It's in the exhaust probably oil seems to collect there ..I am thinking smoke will go away after a good ride
I hope so! I took her out for a ride today and she had some get up and go!! Some tweaking needed but shifts nicely. Still smoking quite a bit though

Update!! Took her out again and she’s not smoking as badly now. Bike runs really well actually 😀 no leaks so far , she’s practically a new bike with rebuilt forks plus progressive springs, rebuilt stock fuel pump( just took apart and cleaned) , new tires, seat , paint just to name a few. Will get a pic out soon!

Geesh! I hate electrics and I’ve had help here before wiring an aftermarket headlight and switch but this time , no power to headlight.
I’ve removed the fairing and the little subharness wiring connector from fairing to bike. I connected all the wires in little box that sits behind headlight/ fairing. Have aftermarket headlight switch wired up. The switch has turn signals, horn button and low/ hi beam. At the headlight plug are the three normal wires. Green, blue and white . Why is there no power to plug? I checked blue/ white wire st the switch and it has power. I even started the bike and still no power at the headlight plug.

Well .... here she is in all her glory. Have just a few things left but mostly complete. This was a full dressed aspencade left outside rotting for 10 years. She runs amazingly fast... single carb.
