the rear brake stays on and drags for a minute after i use it.on my 81 interstate.i checked the fluid its full.do i have yo remove the side bags to bleed it off?will that help?i had an xs1100 that i had to bleed off the front brake once every two weeks till i changed the fluid.it would be stuck when i went out to leave in the morning.just put the little wrench on the bike pull the lever in open the valve one time and good to go.

Hi, you might have a return passage that is blocking, you will have to take the master apart and clean the inside. It could be the caliper is sticking, your best bet is to take both of them off and inspect and clean.

I had the same issue. Mine was the caliper sticking. Took it off, cleaned a little , and put it back on. So far so good...

I had all the above issues on my '83. The pedal was rusted to the frame mount, the master cylinder was corroded and stuck, and the caliper pistons were almost seized. The bike had been sitting for 10 - 12 years. Yours certainly isn't that bad, but probably needs a good cleaning, fluid flush and lube the pedal and caliper mounts.

As others have already stated: sounds like either the return port is clogged or the caliper is dirty and needs a cleaning. How long since the brake fluid was changed? While you have everything off, make sure to check the brake peddal also to make sure that it moves freely.

That was because the return hole in the MC was plugged.
