I don't know if you've already been down this road, but here goes anyway, seeing as it took me forever to figure this out as well as buying lots of wrong parts.

Regarding front brakes, GL1100 front brake master cylinders are not all the same, you need one with a 14mm bore for '80, '81 & 82, the '83 has a 12mm bore due to the linked brakes and the front lever only operating one disc.

In my experience the sellers on eBay where as clueless about that as me, back then.

Are you sure its 14mm? Thought it was 16mm for a 1980.

Unless its changed!! 14mm for '80, '81, & '82. For sure, that's how my bike works.

Never heard of a 16mm.

Basically, the bigger the better, I guess, but I can tell you this, 12mm won't work for your 81 model !!

But who am I to know!!!

I appreciate the info.

Gl1000 chrome fender arrived today. No dents and some naval jelly comes in handy to remove any surface rust. Prefer this to plastic fender. A 79 will fit my gl1100.

Your conversation made me think.

I'm sitting in my shop, looking at the new to me, old Harley, Thinking...

This is the first bike I've owned with steel fenders since the BSA's
and Triumph I owned in the 1970's.

Thanks a bunch Fella's, now I feel really old! :Awe:

Funny we go to the trouble rebuilding calipers on the bikes and I chose to just buy another today for my truck.

They're cheaper for cages, & trucks to take people to work. :smilie_happy: Anything for enjoyment, costs MORE.

Saturday morning ritual:

Step 1 coffee - Newmans organic per keurig machine, you like a deep roast cup, bold flavor, this is it

Step 2 setup pot roast in crockpot, can eat off of that for days :good:

Step 3 browse craigslist, found this, interesting ; https://joplin.craigslist.org/mcy/6054187670.html :good:

Step 4 breakfast, 2 eggs scrambled with spinach and cheese :clapping:

Step 5 turn on the tunes in garage and get back to work on , The Wanderer II :builder:

Step 6 watch tennis ( played for many years back in my glory days) and currently NCAA March madness :salute:

Step 7 walk :yahoo:

Step 8 back to work on bike :builder:

Step 9 ride , the vulcan :moped:

Step ----- intermittent bathroom breaks throughout the day :smilie_happy:

Step 10 Saturday night movie

Step 11 goodnight :help:

the endless step that overrides all steps, kiss my wife throughout the day, she is a blessing and the kindest person I have ever known :lust: :thanks:

I'm enjoying your build. I went through a pretty extensive build on my '78 a couple of years ago and you really bond with a machine when you do a deep dive restoration/customization. I've done the same thing with "non-Goldwings", too. I always go through Saturday garage ritual withdrawal after I finish a project, so there's always a "next" one. (Although I am slowing down. I still have this '78 'wing/Terraplane sidecar monstrosity mocking me to get finished).

Two comments on things that have popped up recently in your thread:

I never forget this part, either. The glue that holds our lives together is that little woman.

I am not a fan of the GL1000 fender. I sold mine off. Perfect even underneath. I don't care for the long tail and big fanout on the back of it. I used the CB900 Custom "shorty" chrome one. I was going to paint it, but I think I've decided to keep it chrome.
