Tony I just shrug my shoulders every time I see that 20 pound maximum. I only wish I could fit a full face helmet in one.

But they look so pretty the size they are
And also the handy flat workbench when the lids are open

Yeah, Craig really nailed it in more ways than one when he designed the bags/trunk.

So I picked this Rooster fairing up on eBay and I knew it wasn't new and had some battle scars:

One of the biggest was underneath the stereo housing:

Reading Tony's report on black ABS glue and the results he had with it got me to thinking I would try it here, so I started working on it. I couldn't work in the garage since it's been too dang cold lately to do anything outside for more than a minute or two so I turned my son's bathroom into a workshop... :hihihi: Did I mention that my wife was out of town for the last week also?

I found a piece of ABS to use as a patch and glued it into place and started to slather on the ABS glue. Left the first coat dry and then laid on some fiberglass material, more glue and more fiberglass. Now it is solid. It should hold whatever stereo I decide to put in it:

A little sanding and more glue to fill in the low spots and here is where I am at:

Still needs some more filler and more sanding, but that black ABS glue isn't any joke. That is some good stuff.

Dan... it sands okay and will fill paper.. but knocks out real easy... it is just though stuff to sand when using fine paper.. like on my cb mount... biggest issue was letting unit dry when building up missing pieces... don't try and replace the piece all at once... I sanded mine with 150 & 200 grit papers... took long time and I didn't cover half of what he did....

Here is the piece during the repair progress the light spots are the abs cement and then sanded painted and fitted..

It looks good Brian.

Are you sanding the ABS patch to smooth it?
Does it sand hard, I mean like does it gum up the sand paper?

For my situation, I am not really filling in any missing pieces with the glue so I am not having a problem with pieces breaking off. Since I am using the fiberglass mat to fill in those voids, it is sanding easily: very similar to bondo. The only problem that I am finding is that it doesn't fill a low spot very well so I will need to come after everything with some kind of body filler to smooth it out completely. Either way, I am happy sa far.

I'll bet! Working in a confined space? Feeling kinda happy? :smilie_happy:

Yeah, but after the first headache, you remember to crack the window.

My wife left me again for another man...

She had to take my youngest son (22) to the Chicago area for another College audition so that left me home alone on a cold winter weekend. You would think she would have learned not to do that anymore, but I guess she didn't learn her lesson when she came home last weekend. It's still too cold to work in the garage, so back to work in the spare bathroom. I am finished with the inside of the fairing so it was time to get to work on the outside. A little sanding and some cutting of the lower lips to clear the headlight ears and here is how it looks:

Some more sanding and then I get to figure out how I am going to attach it!
